Mayor's Message for April 14th, 2023

New CFD Firefighters

At the regular council meeting on Tuesday April 11th, Fire Chief, Anthony Martinez, introduced our three new Corrales fire fighters, Brian Fox Jr., Abigail Silver-Volner and Julian Trujillo. Members of their families were in attendance and pinned their new Corrales Fire Department badges on them. Two of the new hires were part of the YCC (Youth Conservation Corps) program as well as volunteer fire fighters with our fire department, and the third is a very familiar face because he has been working in the village for quite some time but in a different department. We are very honored to have these three new firefighters in our Village. Congratulations to all!

The Village was granted $242,047 from the Dennis Friends Foundation and an additional $25,000 from Sandoval County Commissioner, Katherine Bruch to complete the new animal services building project. This pre-fabricated kennel will provide better housing for animals who are picked up by animal services, but will not be a long-term shelter for animals.

Irrigation season is underway. Please be aware when on the acequia, farmers will be out there working on their laterals, irrigating their fields. If on a bike or walking, be aware of farm vehicles or implements being moved from one pasture to another. With such nice weather look out for other bicyclists, pedestrians, or equestrians. Remember to share the road and be polite. We are all neighbors.

A final presentation was given to the Village Council on April 11 regarding the proposed multi-use center, the ACE Building. It was a job well done by the select committee. The administration hopes to move forward on finding funding sources for the costs of design and construction. The Jones’ house has been demolished, and site clean-up is underway. The conceptual design will be set in the library if possible and in the lobby of the administration office. Comments or suggestions can be sent by email to the council, to me, or to our village clerk, Melanie Romero at: mromero [at] corrales-nm.com ().   You can watch the presentation on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/_5pIQB2rdtE?t=1122.

The regular season of the Corrales Growers’ Market starts on April 30, from 9 AM until 12 PM. Ride your bikes if you can or better yet, walk. Parking should also be available in the lot that is north of the post office so please don’t park on the highway.

Visit the Growers’ Market and then head over to the Recreation Center for the Rides, Strides & Giddy-Up - Corrales Spring Recreation Fair!” at 500 Jones Road from 10am – 1pm. Learn about what the recreation center has to offer, helmet fitting, bike rodeo, FREE helmet giveaways, clean your bike, bird watching, raptor/owl demonstration, fishing in the bosque, meet horses, learn how to approach horses safely, noodle pony rodeo for kids, information on safety and emergency services from the Corrales Fire Department and much more! Come and join the fun, all are welcome to attend this FREE event!
