Mayor's Message for August 12th, 2022

Sandia's and vineyard

Let me remind everyone that the village has signed a purchase agreement for the Gonzales property in the middle of Corrales, but the sale is not yet final, and there is no definite plan for how the property will be utilized. Start thinking about what you would and would not like to see on that property and relay that information to your representatives on the council. It will take at least 3 months to clear all the hurdles for purchase, but the village is optimistic it will go through.

Recently, the bond rating for Corrales was increased by Moody’s Investor Services to Aa3. That is directly related to the strong financial health of the village due to the efforts of the previous administration and to the staff and employees of the village. Corrales is blessed with dedicated employees who work as a team to be most effective for the community and get the job done.

Data is being collected so we can update the Comprehensive Land Use Plan, which was last updated in 2009. Something to think about is how do we envision land development in the future. Larger lots? Smaller lots? Cluster housing? What services would citizens like to see available in the future? What kinds of businesses in the village? Look over the previous plan by going to the Village website and searching for “comprehensive plan The Village requirement that single family units be located on one or two acres was established with incorporation in 1971. It continues to be the most effective tool in managing development in the village. 93% of respondents supported this requirement. Any changes in the update requires the voice of the people to express their desires.

The village is making progress in moving forward on the STEP system into the Priestly/Coroval neighborhoods. Public meetings will be held so everyone will be aware of what is needed and what some of the costs will be. More information on those meetings will be coming in the next few weeks.
