Mayor's Message for August 19th, 2022

Pretty Sandias

This month is winding down, but there are still a few events that one can attend:

The Balloon Glow Under a Starry Night is being held this weekend at Trees of Corrales, August 20, from 5:30 until 8:30 PM. Tickets are $150.00 per person, but the money goes to help support Corrales MainStreet. Please check out their website for more information at: www.visitcorrales.com/starry-night

Corrales Art Studio Tour is being held August 27 & August 28 at various locations around Corrales from 10 AM until 5 PM, both days. For more information check out their website at https://corralessocietyofartists.org/studio-tour/.

Be sure to visit the Corrales Growers’ Market this Sunday between 9 AM and 12 noon. Get some of the rare tomatoes this season before they sellout. Also, Village in the Village will be sponsoring a 50/50 raffle (see more info below). So, go to the market, get some produce, buy a ticket, and maybe win a prize?

Village in the Village is offering YOU a golden chance to win a big pot of gold and support VIV. Our 50/50 fundraiser raffle is open now, with the Grand Prize drawing on September 27thVIV and the lucky raffle winner will split donations from ticket sales. VIV’s share will go to support VIV programs and operations and help us continue to keep Corrales golden agers in their homes and engaged in our community. Please check out their website at: www.villageinthevillage.org for more updates and information.

The Corrales Harvest Festival will be Saturday September 24th and Sunday September 25th. Lots of fun events are planned this year and we are expecting a huge turnout. The Harvest Festival is in dire need of volunteers! Please check out the website at www.corralesharvestfestival.com to sign up to volunteer. The link for volunteer sign up will not be active until after August 20th.

Mark your calendar: September 4th, there will be First Sunday in Corrales: Arts in the Village and the Music in Corrales series will start September 10.

The Bosque Advisory Commission is holding a Ravenna grass seed head removal event on Saturday morning, August 27th from 8-10am.  It will take place at the willow swale at levee mile marker 1.0 in the bosque.  Park at either Andrews Lane or the Cabezon entrance.  Please wear long sleeves, a hat, sunscreen and gloves; bring water and pruners.  Collection bags will be provided. For those who don’t frequently take advantage of our bosque it is a great place to walk, and you will be benefitting our bosque and Mother Nature.

There is a high chance of heavy rain Friday through Sunday -  be prepared. From the National Weather Service Albuquerque: The 7-day precipitation forecast from WPC is eye-popping to say the least. Most of this rainfall is expected to fall between Friday night and Sunday morning. Major flash flooding is possible on recent burn scars. Flooding is also likely on small streams, creeks, arroyos, tributaries to main stem rivers, and low-lying areas. Noticeable rises are also expected on larger rivers. Road closures are possible.

We have empty sandbags available at the fire station on the front porch if anyone needs them.
