Mayor's Message for August 25th, 2023

Speeding Slows You Down

Drive safely, obey the speed limit, and watch out for your neighbors. Public Works is in the process of inventorying the Village roads, checking striping, and identifying specific impacts on each road. Once finished, re-striping will be performed to narrow the lanes which will help to slow traffic. Monitoring by the police continues to get more data about traffic speeding and where there might be a problem.

One should tour their property and inventory the trees that are very close to power lines that might arc between the lines and branches causing a fire. That may have been what happened in Maui resulting in their catastrophic blaze. Heavy snow, if we get any, can also force branches down on the lines resulting in power failure if they disturb connections or break the line. The Village is making progress with the fire suppression system but we still have some work to do, so prevention is very important.

The administration is working toward a finished design of the facility on the Jones property. Our focus has been to get input, but it seems that we can’t make everyone feel like they have a say. Remember, you can contact your councilor and express your opinion or ideas. That is why the Village has districts. Everyone has a representative. You can stop at the administrative offices, view the early plan in the lobby, make your comments, express your opinion. There will have to be a compromise on what the building looks like, what it has in it, and what it provides.

The Harvest Festival is going to use the Growers’ Market site this year for food trucks and parking. At this time, discussions are ongoing about using the Rec Center back parking lot by the pool and gym for the market vendors. There is apparently a large amount of produce so save some space so you can take some home with you. Harvest Festival is September 30 and October 1 from 9 AM to 5 PM. The Growers’ Market opens at 9 AM on Sunday, October 1. You can also attend on Wednesdays, the usual site at 9 AM.

Signup to run for a position on the Village Council or for Municipal Judge is Tuesday, August 29 from 9 AM to 5 PM at the county clerk’s office. The election will be held November 7. There are 3 positions up for election on the council plus the judge position. You can download a candidate filing packet from our web site. The only requirements are that you be a registered voter in Sandoval County, live here in Corrales in the district you wish to represent, be available for meetings, and be interested in doing something for your community.

CRIME AND SAFETY UPDATE

On Sun. 08/13 While an officer was running radar for speeding on West Entrada, he stopped a vehicle for speeding. Upon contacting the driver, it was discovered the driver had a warrant for failure to pay prior traffic offenses. The driver was issued a citation for speeding, and arrested for the warrant, and booked into Sandoval County Detention Center.

On Fri. 08/18 at 0500 am resident of Entrada De Los Martinez reported that she went out to get an item out of her vehicle, and noticed the vehicle was not in her driveway any longer. CPD responded and took a stolen vehicle report. Later that morning the victim reported that her roommate took her car without permission and was in Rio Rancho. She picked up her vehicle and did not want to press charges.

SEE IT, HEAR IT, REPORT IT!
