Mayor's Message for August 27th, 2021

Sunflowers at La Entrada Park

Don’t you love the cool mornings? The afternoons are hot and we are overrun with peaches, nectarines, plums and tomatoes. It’s a nice problem to have.

We are repaved and striped! Corrales Road now has new lane striping and the crosswalks are blocked out. Corrales Road is looking and driving better than it has for years. Thank you, New Mexico Department of Transportation.

COVID. Vaccinations are up 30%; Corrales clinics are doing a brisk business (149 shots this week). Thank you! Infections are still on the rise, so for now, please wear your masks indoors and be careful when in crowded situations. As always, if you have concerns about the vaccine, or questions about the booster, reach out to your doctor or Commander Tanya Lattin at (505) 702—4182.

Book Lovers unite! Get down to La Entrada Park for a pop-up ($5 a bag) book sale on Saturday August 28th from 9-3. The Friends of the Corrales Library need to empty the storage shed, so don’t be shy about taking books home. Consider it a public service.

While at the book sale, enjoy how beautiful La Entrada Park looks. So many are responsible. Lynn and Ben from Parks and Recreation have kept the grounds lush. The garden created by the Master Gardeners just east of the Corrales Community Library is blooming and the trees donated by Courtenay Koontz (just behind the Veteran’s Memorial) are thriving. You will also notice the Rose Garden (aka the Mother’s Garden) got a rehab last year. Next up: the same intrepid local gardening group will take on the Children’s Garden south of the library. Thank you everyone, for all your efforts.

The Corrales Senior Center has a new supervisor, Mary Boyd, and she is here to help you. The Senior Center is open M-F, 8 to 5 to those who are vaccinated; masks are required indoors. Enjoy in-house dining or grab-and-go. For a complete list of programming or help, call 505-897-3818. By the way, the Senior Center staff wanted to send a special shout-out to Mike Chavez and Julian Trujillo of Public Works for being so responsive to their maintenance needs.

Got Art, Corrales! will be held at the Old Church on September 11 from 5-7. Along with great ways to enjoy art, there will be food, spirits, and good people. For information and tickets (they are limited), go today to www.corralesartscenter.org.

SAVE THE DATE. Sunday, September 26, it’s the Corrales 50th Anniversary Parade, right after the Pet Parade, which will begin at 9 am. We encourage all locals to participate. Look for registration details next week. Corrales is Golden!

This weekend it will continue to be hot, with increasing chances for scattered showers. Saturday night is the MainStreet Starry Nights fundraiser, “Murder on the Rio Grande” and on Sunday, enjoy all the fresh produce at the Corrales Growers’ Market from 9-12. Whatever you do, please stay safe and enjoy yourselves, Corrales-style.

Mayor of Corrales
