Mayor's Message for August 7th, 2020

Premier Stables Ribbon Cutting

August is hot and dry, but we still have lower morning and nighttime temperatures. August means schools are gearing up to welcome students back, in some form or other.  But it is very hard to learn when you are hungry. Schools provide complete meals for kids in need; if you are interested in helping cover the cost of this food, please contact Dorothy Adams at (505) 345-5661, x 38209. The state also has programs to help in many areas: check out www.newmexico.gov and click “I Need Assistance.”

Corrales has some of the best employees you can imagine. The Fire Chief, Anthony Martinez, his crew and Village Clerk Aaron Gjullin came to the rescue by spending hours running cable through the newly remodeled Planning and Zoning building, saving the Village literally thousands of dollars.

Also, numerous employees (e.g., Fire Commander Tanya Lattin, Finance Officer Reyna Aragon, Police Chief Vic Mangiacapra, Clerk Aaron Gjullin and Accounts Specialist Cindy Gomez) have been working really hard to make sure Corrales obtains all legitimate COVID 19 reimbursements through the CARES Act distributions.  A big thanks to all of you.

Thanks to local business Ideum and its ”Technology for our Community’ program, the Corrales Police Department will receive a new wall-mounted unit, which will be used to improve pubic safety through better mapping for emergency operations and crime prevention. New information and findings will be shared with Sandoval County Dispatch and surrounding law enforcement agencies. Thank you so much.

We have a new business here in Corrales! Premier Stables will be offering basic to full horse boarding, lessons and training. It is a beautiful facility, located at 408 West La Entrada Road, and perfectly suited for Corrales, the Horse Capital of New Mexico.

More people are enjoying the Corrales Bosque, including pedestrians (with or without dogs), equestrians and cyclists. Thanks to the cooperative efforts of three Corrales Commissions (Corrales Bosque, Corrales Bicycle and Pedestrian and Corrales Equine), there will be a public education outreach to help folks understand proper trail etiquette, dog leashing, etc., Tentative date: September 12.

COVID: Corrales now has 34 cases, but the number of cases statewide is dropping, so we are now just red, as opposed to burnt red. Starting next week, you can visit your loved one in a long-term aging facility. Our transmission and positivity rates are also low. Let’s stay the course and September will bring us better news. Please, keep wearing that mask, stay at a safe social distance and cap gatherings at 5 or less. Go to: website >COVID 19 Resources.

These are tough times and most of us are feeling the strain. Take a moment to reach out by phone, text or Zoom to a friend or acquaintance. Just for a wellness check. You will make their day! We are a great community: thank you for caring for yourself and for each other.

Sunday brings the Corrales Growers Market from 9-12. Early mornings are still relatively cool, so get out there and experience the natural beauty of the Village. Whatever you do, enjoy the weekend, Corrales-style.
