Mayor's Message for December 17th, 2021

Happy Holidays

We've had windy weather and some colder days, but our New Mexico weather has been a blessing. Clearly, others have not been as fortunate, and there are many ways to help. Kentucky Governor Beshear has established the Team Western Kentucky Relief fund to assist those impacted by the tornadoes and severe weather on December 11, 2021. If you would like to donate to help you can do so at teamwkyrelieffund.ky.gov.

The entrance off Loma Larga at West Ella is closed because the bridge was deemed unsafe. It will be rebuilt, as soon as possible, with an anticipated completion time of spring.

The Sagebrush (Thompson Fenceline) trail connection is nearing completion. The Village will host a ribbon cutting ceremony in early 2022.

The Corrales Community Library will soon be offering additional resources online. For example, library card holders will be able to get a 24 hour code to access the New York Times (including the recipes and crosswords). Or, you’ll be able to dive into additional ancestry databases. There is also the 2021 Giving Trees at the library, to help the librarians fulfill their wishes for the community. It will be up from now through January 15th. You can specify where you would like your donation to go, such as toward new DVD's, children's materials, or to fund library programs. You can give in one of three ways: 1) Stop by the library to choose a tag, which you can take to the main desk with your donation, 2) Donate by mail to FOCL, PO Box 1586, Corrales, NM 87048 or 3) Donate on-line at friendsofthecorraleslibrary.wildapricot.org. Check out everything that's happening at Corrales Library by visiting corraleslibrary.org.

The Corrales Historical Society is presenting the Festival of the Nativities on Saturday and Sunday, 10 am - 5 pm at the Old Church. It’s beautiful and it’s free.

I am very proud that the Village has issued all the Farmland bond monies authorized by the Corrales voters in 2018. Your bond monies preserved multiple acres for open space/habitat/farmland in Corrales. Congratulations.

New Mexico is now reporting Omicron cases and the strain is highly infectious. The vaccination program here in Corrales makes it so easy to get your shots. No more excuses. Commander Lattin is proud to report Corrales has vaccinated 1,000 children. For more information, contact her at: (505) 702-4182. As we navigate the holidays, her suggestion is to upgrade your mask quality (K95 or N95) and avoid poorly ventilated indoor spaces.

Yes, it’s the last weekend before Christmas! Bundle up and enjoy our outdoors, shop local (see www.visitcorrales.com) or check out the holiday market at the Corrales Growers Market on Sunday from 11 am - 1 pm, Whatever you do, please be safe and be festive, Corrales-style.
