Mayor's Message for February 11th, 2022

Superbowl Sunday

February is treating us to roller coaster temperatures. Guess the message is to be prepared for everything! Luckily, that’s in the New Mexico DNA.

Valentine’s Day is Monday. Don’t forget to say or do something that shows your loved ones you care.

The New Mexico Legislative Session ends on February 17th. The Village discussed our capital outlay requests (ICIP) again with the

legislators just before they submitted their funding picks last Friday. Fingers crossed! Many thanks to our legislators, Senator Brenda McKenna, and Representatives Jane Powdrell-Culbert and Daymon Ely for all their hard work.

Village government continues to improve services for you. A new audio system will be installed in the Council Chambers, making it

much easier to hear civic proceedings in the room and allowing those listening remotely to be seen and heard. The Village is also working with a New Mexico company to put together a broadband plan to boost our connectivity.

For those who think one person cannot make positive change, think again. Resident Todd Kimball engaged with Terry Doyle, Director for the Rio Metro Regional Transit District and after Terry followed up with the Village, a pilot program is in the works to offer a designated bus from Rio Rancho to provide door to door service for eligible seniors and those with disabilities. Watch for details! Thank you, Todd and Terry.

Speaking of changing lives, Martin Dominguez is a young boy whose life changed when he got his COVID-19 shot from Corrales Fire Chief Martinez. He used to be afraid of shots, but not anymore. Martin says, “As long as the fire chief is there, I’ll be brave like him!” Way to go!

Glass recycling is very popular and the Village is picking up the cost for you. Please do not put trash in the glass bins. Once fouled, Road Runner cannot pick up the glass, forcing our Fire Department to sort through the dumpster. Not what we want our CFD doing. Glass only! Thank you.

If you are in need of a free rapid home Covid test kit, you have some options, you can get one through a grant the State of New Mexico received from the Rockefeller Foundation at: https://accesscovidtests.org/ or through the Federal program if you have not already ordered yours https://www.covidtests.gov.

News from the Corrales Community Library. The Seed Library is now open. You can check out up to 15 packets of seeds, and return seeds to us after you harvest. For help getting

started, see Master Gardener Judy Jacobs' talk on Seed Starting: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2fziz9tk7fpb2ss/Seed%20Starting%202022%20Recorded%20Final.mp4?dl=0

Remember, library WiFi now extends through the parking lot and La Entrada Park, available even when the library is closed by using the password posted in the porch window. Want more library news?

The League of Women Voters sponsored 2 candidate forums. If you were not able to watch the candidate forums, the Village has posted the recordings on YouTube. You can find the recordings here: February 7thhttps://youtu.be/SYwmgIaN_qE February 10th: https://youtu.be/BsUOI0voItg

Early Voting continues through Friday, February 25th, 2022, at the office of the Village Clerk, 4324 Corrales Road, Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm and Saturday, February 26th, 2022 from 10 am to 6 pm.

This weekend is expected to bring warm temperatures so get out and enjoy our local scenery and scene (www.visitcorrales.com). Of course, Sunday is Super Bowl LVI. Whatever you choose to do, please stay safe and have some fun, Corrales-style.

Jo Anne Roake

Mayor of Corrales
