Happy Valentine’s Day! What a great day to exchange kind words, candy and flowers with your friends and family. If you’d like to continue the celebration into the weekend (which is supposed to be gorgeous), join the Corrales Wine Loop Annual Wine & Chocolate Pairing. It’s happening both Saturday and Sunday from 12-5. For complete details about this and other local happenings, go to “This Week in Corrales” at www.visitcorrales [at] gmail.com.

Kiwanis Grants: Last year, Kiwanis granted over $30,000. The purpose of this grant program, entitled ”CHANGING THE WORLD, ONE CHILD AT A TIME,” is to provide for the youth of the Corrales Community. Please apply by March 30. Details at https://www.kiwanis-corrales.org. Speaking of Kiwanis, the local 4-H spoke to the Club this last Wednesday and gave a wonderful presentation, which they shared with me. Want to take a peek? Here it is: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1SuhwcBFIt4GGkD8sdfqial0MVa_AVq8…

The Corrales Water Advisory Board (CWAB) presented its report at the Council meeting Tuesday evening. You can see the report on the Village website. It’s very readable and gives the Village solid recommendations to consider. Many thanks for the considerable time and effort put in by the outstanding members of the CWAB: Don Turton, Brad Sumrall, Maryann Wasiolek, Wendy Fidao and Bert Coxe. View the report.

Corrales is sad to report that Vicki Andrews, president and co-owner of Road Runner Waste Service, passed away early this month. She brought something very special to the company and to Corrales and will be missed by family, friends and employees.

Don’t forget the local election happens on March 3. Check the website and the Corrales Comment for forums and other information. The Village Office (4324 Corrales Road) is open for early voting right now. Make your voice heard. VOTE!

Next week is the final week of the 2020 New Mexico Legislative Session. We will keep you posted on the status of our capital outlay requests. The final information will likely be available the end of March.

Monday, February 17 is Presidents’ Day (Happy birthday to George Washington and Abraham Lincoln). In honor of this holiday, the Village Offices will be open.

As noted, Saturday and Sunday are set to be sunny and (almost) warm. Great time to get out there. Whatever you do, enjoy your weekend, Corrales style.

Jo Anne Roake, Mayor
