Mayor's Message for February 25th, 2022

I Voted

As February comes to a close, we’ve had another interesting weather week. We had sun, one very windy day and a late-night snowstorm (melted by the following morning). Next week, it’s back up to the 60’s!

The Legislature treated the Village well this year, allocating $852,500 to be spent on 4 areas. First and foremost is the Interior Drain Project, which will serve both infrastructure and recreational needs, funds for fire suppression and wastewater/sewer main projects, and money to buy the necessary equipment to carry them out. Many thanks to Senator Brenda McKenna and Representatives Jane Powdrell Culbert and Daymon Ely for their efforts.

EARLY VOTING is today, February 25th, from 8 am to 5 pm and tomorrow, February 26th, 2022 from 10 am to 6 pm at the office of the Village Clerk, 4324 Corrales Road.  VOTING DAY is Tuesday, March 1, at the Corrales Recreation Center, 500 Jones Road, from 7 am to 7 pm.

Next Tuesday, Corrales elects a new Mayor and 3 Council members, all of whom will take office on April 1st. They will be serving the public interest and you can help them by staying informed on local issues. Hold them to high standards, give them a little time to adjust and assume they are doing their best until they prove otherwise.

Happily, our newly elected officials will be working with a competent, effective and dedicated Village staff. Over the last 4 years, in this weekly Mayor’s Message, on the Village website and wherever else possible, the goal has been to highlight the quality of the Village employees. Our police and fire first responders and our Emergency Manager receive frequent, deserved praise. But it doesn’t stop there, because employee excellence runs deep, throughout Administration, Corrales Community Library, Finance, Parks and Recreation, Planning and Zoning and Public Works. Residents often say how much they love Corrales; much of that feeling can be traced back to the commitment of Village employees. Take a moment to thank them.

The Music in Corrales concert with Claire Huangci at the Old San Ysidro Church has been moved to an online event. Tickets can be purchased at https://www.musicincorrales.org/ticket/claire-huangci-tickets/. The online concert will be available for nine days beginning Saturday, February 26th and running through Sunday, March 6th.

March 1 is also Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday), a traditional day of celebration before the sacrifices of Lent. In the midst of our worries (and we have a few!), take some time to celebrate that we are still here and spring is coming. Wear some beads, eat King Cake or a beignet and enjoy clips of New Orleans parades: https://www.mardigrasneworleans.com/videos.

This weekend offers mornings in the high 20’s and afternoons in the low 50’s. Mostly sunny, so please enjoy the outdoors and the culinary and retail wonders of our town (visitcorrales.com), Remember to stay safe and have some fun, Corrales-style.
