Mayor's Message for February 28th, 2020

Lion and Lamb

February is here and gone. Shall we see if March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb?

The election is upon us. Early voting is available today 8 am – 5 pm and Saturday 10 am to 6 pm. You can same-day register today and tomorrow (Saturday).  After that, vote on Election Day, Tuesday, March 3 from 7 am to 7 pm at the Corrales Recreation Center, 500 Jones Road. Thank you all for being engaged. Let’s make it a high turn-out election!

We lost a Village patriarch this last week - Gus Wagner.  Gus will be remembered as a devoted family man, a legendary farmer and a true community mainstay. He served multiple terms as a Corrales Village councilor and as a director for the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District. Gus was a friend and mentor to so many and he leaves behind an enviable legacy.

The whirlwind 2020 New Mexico Legislative Session is over. Corrales should receive about a million dollars in capital outlay monies to help fund priorities identified last year by our Governing Body. Many thanks to Senator Sapien and Representatives Powdrell-Culbert and Ely for their continued generosity to our community.

It’s First Sunday in the Village. There will be art openings, an ongoing art class and a textile sale. Come and check out the galleries along Corrales Road, from 1 - 5 pm. For more details about this and other happenings, go to: visitcorrales.com.

On Sunday, before you visit our galleries and restaurants, visit the Corrales Growers’ Winter Market from 11-1. Don’t miss this opportunity to buy produce, eat burritos and mingle. The weather is supposed to be beautiful (lamb-like), so whatever you do, please enjoy your weekend, Corrales-style.
