Mayor's Message for January 10th 2020

Tanya Fire

Welcome to January in New Mexico. We are pretty cold, but still enjoying great blue sky days. So bundle up and enjoy the season.

For some months, INTEL has been planning improvements on the east side of its property, including the trail that abuts the west side of Corrales, with hopes of improved drainage and other features. Here is the information that INTEL is sign-posting:

Intel will be doing improvement work along the east side of our property, including making changes to the existing trail.  For the safety of everyone, we will be closing the trail in two sections while work is ongoing. The north section of the trail adjacent to Corrales will be closed from January 13th through mid-April. The south section of the trail adjacent to Sky View will be closed March through April. We know you enjoy using the trail and we appreciate your patience while this work is completed. There is the Thompson Fenceline Trail on the north side of Meadowlark adjacent to the north Intel trail entrance you may want to utilize during the trail closures.

If you have any questions or concerns at any time, please contact Intel at 505-893-9904. Let’s wish INTEL all success in this long-awaited project.

Personnel update. Fire Commander Tanya Lattin has devoted 23 years of service to our community. Congratulations and Happy Anniversary. Corrales is lucky indeed.

Corrales has been named the #1 place to live in New Mexico on the Home Snacks website. Why? Well, aside from all our other benefits, perhaps they learned about our chicken rescue. Our intrepid Animal Service Officers Katherine Keller and Bryah Lattin-Montano have been rehoming chickens relinquished by Rio Rancho (they even got interviewed by KOAT). Thank you both. It’s part of what makes Corrales Corrales.

One of our 2020 goals is to carefully consider whether or not to take over Corrales Road (currently State Road 448). Seems to have generated some buzz and yesterday Village Administrator Ron Curry spoke with the media about it. Be assured we will be doing further analysis and seeking citizen input. The decision will ultimately be made by the Governing Body.

Another indication of how much we care about our community is that multiple candidates are running for every open seat! A big thank you to each of you who have stepped up to run and support our community. After a final state check, the list of qualified candidates will be posted this afternoon on our website. I look forward to a spirited discussion of issues and viewpoints in the days leading up to the March 3 election.

Please enjoy this wintry weekend, Corrales-style.

Jo Anne Roake, Mayor of Corrales
