Mayor's Message for January 14, 2022

Loma Larga Paving Project

Nights and mornings are cold! It's good weather for chile and soups. We’ve still had lots of sunshine to lift our spirits.

Monday, January 17th is Martin Luther King Day. For some historical context, see:

MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. We Corraleñnos certainly know the value of volunteerism. Every day we volunteer with civic organizations to help children, animals, and the environment. We volunteer to support agriculture, the arts, and local history. We grow and donate food. We help vaccinate people. We patrol the bosque. We register people to vote. We drive folks to doctors’ appointments. We take food to the sick. We teach kids to ride a bike. And there are countless more examples. These acts of care are what makes us a strong community. Let’s continue this fine tradition!

For your protection, CHS Speakers’ Series for this Sunday has been postponed (check the website, corraleshistory.org/speaker, for a new date). As Omicron surges, be on high alert and wear a KN95 or N95 mask. Check and click the COVID-19 Resources button for a list of ways to protect yourself, get COVID tests or treatment.

The Loma Larga paving is done, but lane stripping will have to wait until the weather warms up a bit. Many thanks to Mike Chavez and his Public Works Department for the expanded design and quick completion of the job.

The New Mexico Legislature 30-day session begins next Tuesday at noon. You should be able to get lots of information and the hearing schedule as it develops by clicking: www.nmlegis.gov/. In person access to the building may be curtailed due to Omicron, so please check before traveling to Santa Fe.  In a short 30-day session, budget issues are the focus. Any other issues must be part of a Governor’s Message, but crime reform legislation will be on the call. Stay tuned!

In honor of MLK Day, the Village offices will be closed Monday, January 17th.

Weather this weekend will be brisk but sunny. You’ll be able to get out and enjoy the outdoors. You can also check out our businesses at visitcorrales.com. Whatever you do, please stay safe and enjoy yourselves, Corrales-style.
