Mayor's Message for January 17th 2020

Geese in the snow

So far, we are getting the best kind of snow - big flakes, pretty to see and quickly gone. Nonetheless, please take extra care when driving our roads. Weekend should bring warmer weather. Looking at the rest of the nation, I’m most grateful for our local climate.

Election update: the candidates for the March 3 election have been certified and the Village has created an election page on the website to make finding information easier. Click on the Government Tab and you will see Election 2020. Or just follow go : The Village will keep you informed as to information or events pertaining to the election.

The long-planned Salce Basin FEMA project is proceeding well and still due to be completed this spring. While heavy trucks are banned from Loma Large (and our police are watching), trucks working on the SB project are allowed in order to complete the work.

We support local! And many in Albuquerque clearly support us. Here is the list of award winning facilities that topped the Albuquerque Magazine Best of the City 2019 List: Best Patio Dining and Best Romantic Dining: Indigo Crow; Best Pizza and Best Gourmet Pizza: Village Pizza; Best local winery: Pasando Tiempo; Best New Brewery: Ex Novo; Best Alternative Wellness Business: Saumya Ayurveda; Best Place to Pop the Question: The Bosque; Best Bed and Breakfast: Chocolate Turtle B&B; Best Public Swimming Pool: Corrales Pool; Best Local Commercial: Tesuque Stucco; Best Art Gallery - Corrales Bosque Gallery; Best Boutique and Best Western Wear Store and Best Casualwear and Best Accessories - Cinchy Cowgirl; Best Locally Made Product: Heidi’s Raspberry Jam, and Best Frame Shop: Frame n Art.

Congratulations!

Also, local company Ideum has new interactive exhibits at the National Museum of African Art; closer to home they are building interactive exhibits to support the Bosque Education Guide, specifically for the Valle de Oro Wildlife Refuge. Thank you for calling Corrales home.

Due to ongoing technological upgrades our administrative offices close at 1 pm today in order to get a new server battery installed with the least disruption to the staff and public.

The New Mexico Legislature opens its 30 day session on Tuesday, January 21. There will be lots of news about statewide issues but the Village will be working hard to make sure our local legislators understand our local needs. Legislators will make their decisions at the end of the session and if approved by the Governor, Corrales will know what’s funded in March or April.

Monday, January 20, the Village offices will be closed in honor of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King. This day has been recognized as a federal holiday since 1986, under President Ronald Reagan. It’s a good day to ponder real commitment and the sacrifice it may demand.

Whatever you do this weekend, please enjoy it Corrales-style.

Jo Anne Roake, Mayor
