Mayor's Message for January 31st 2020

Ground Hogs

Today is the last day of January. All in all, it’s been a really good month and it looks like the first week of February will be terrific - and I am not just talking Super Bowl.

For those of you who do not watch football, this Sunday is Arts Alive! Sunday featuring an art crawl from 1-5 in the galleries along Corrales Road. You’ll also have the chance to create your own handmade Valentines along the way. Go check it out.

The March 3 election is coming up. At the Council Meeting on Tuesday night, bond counsel presented the Council and public with a fact sheet about the bond questions. If you were not there, you can see the information at: https://www.corrales-nm.org/sites/default/files/fileattachments/clerks_…. The Village has also prepared a brochure with election information, available on the Village website https://www.corrales-nm.org/sites/default/files/fileattachments/clerks_… the Village Offices and in your next Road Runner Waste Service bill.

Many have been asking about candidate forums. So far, the Village is aware that District 5 candidates will be at the Bistro on Thursday, February 6 at 4 pm. A forum for all open seats is planned for February 19 at the Old Church, time yet to be determined. There likely will be more forums as well as meet and greets hosted by residents in various locations. The Village may not know about all of them, so do ask your candidates what they have planned.

Councilor Clauser commented on the high quality of our Village Department monthly activity updates. I agree. These reports are part of the Council meeting materials and public packet. Want to catch up? Check out the website at: I’m looking for - Agendas/Minutes - January 28, 2020- Packet.

ROAD CLOSURE ALERT: Corrales Road will be down to one lane on Tuesday, February 4 so New Mexico Gas Company can repair a damaged gas service. The work will be in the area of Manierre Road and Moongate Road.

Let’s not forget that Sunday is also Ground Hog Day. Punxsutawney Phil will emerge from his burrow. Will he see his shadow and let us in for 6 more weeks of winter?

Whether you are out enjoying warmer weather, making valentines, watching football or Punxsutawney Phil, please enjoy your weekend Corrales-style.

Jo Anne Roake

Mayor of Corrales
