Mayor's Message for July 1, 2022

Stormy Sandia Mountains

The rains seem to have started and, hopefully, they will continue. 2.43 inches have been recorded at my house since 6/18/2022. Prior to this last couple of weeks, my last measurable rainfall, 0.12 inches, was on March 30th. Let’s hope the monsoon season is starting, but we are not out of the drought yet. We are still in discussions with the MRGCD about how we can deal with the water shortage going forward and try to develop a plan so the irrigation season can go longer and support our farmers.

The summer movie festival at the library started Thursday, 6/30 in the teen room. They will be showing movies every Thursday afternoon from 1 - 3 pm - and they have popcorn! Check it out.

The 4th of July parade is Monday starting at 10 am. Information is available on the village website. Village offices will be closed on the 4th. Walter Heaton, retiring Corrales police officer, will be Grand Marshall of the parade and will lead the parade.

First Sunday in Corrales is this weekend, 10 AM-4 PM, and the Corrales Grower’s Market is Sunday AM starting at 9 AM, running until 12 noon.

The Corrales Police Department will be taking donations for the Cops and Crayons program beginning today and will continue through August 7th. This program collects donations of school supplies and backpacks for children in needs. Donations may be dropped off at the Corrales Police Department during normal business hours.  For more information, please contact Detective Sergeant Julie Rogers at jrogers [at] corrales-nm.org.

The Corrales Historical Society will be offering tours of the church Saturday, July 9th beginning at 10 AM.  You can see all their events for the month here: https://www.corraleshistory.org/calendar.html

The Corrales Arts Center will be hosting “Great Artists” classes for kids at Corrales Elementary which runs July 5th – 8th, 2 – 4 pm. $25 for the 4-class series. Parents are welcome to join their children. https://corralesartscenter.org/event-4869040

There is to be a special meeting of the Village Council on July 6. One of the items for discussion will be regarding our capital requests to the legislature. All citizens are invited to tune in and watch your councilors in action. Go to the village web site and pull up meetings. There will be a link to zoom in and watch as decisions are made.
