Mayor's Message for July 15th, 2022

Corrales Quail

The Village administration has now hired a deputy village clerk! Skye DeVivi, a Corrales native, started work last week. She will be assisting both the Village Clerk and the Finance Director with all their various tasks, as well as coordinating the issuance of business licenses for the Village. The late Carmine DeVivi, a local master gardener and artist, was her father and Pat DeVivi is her mother . She has returned home to help her mother and has hit the ground running at the deputy clerk’s job.

Today is National Parks and Recreation Professionals Day.  Our Parks and Recreation Director, Lynn Siverts, not only coordinates all the community programs run by the Parks and Rec Department, but he also assists every other department in the Village with tasks that need to be done. If you see Lynn or his employees Mekenzie Jenkins and Benny Gonzales, be sure to give them a quick thank you for all they do for the Village.

At the next Council meeting (Tuesday, July 19th at 6:30 PM) the council will discuss the infrastructure capital improvements plan, ICIP. These are the funds we request from the legislature for the various projects for which the village needs funding assistance to complete the project. Tune in. This is a good time to see what the village government sees as needed in the village. You can pass on your thoughts to your councilor and whether you agree or disagree. Since the meeting will be hybrid, that is, little ZOOM and some in-person, it represents an opportunity to watch and listen to our local government. You may decide to attend a meeting and speak up.

The Master Gardeners are planting the Storybook Garden at the Corrales Library next Thursday, July 21, at 9am. They are requesting help – especially from children -  to help create the Storybook Garden of Edible Plants. The Storybook Garden will be a place for kids to learn about different types of plants, and will eventually provide a place to have story time.
