Mayor's Message for June 11th, 2021

Gazebo at Liam Knight Pond

Corrales is experiencing higher and higher temperatures, complicated by smoke from New Mexico and Arizona fires. Please take extra precautions with yourself and your animals.

When temperatures exceed 86 degrees (and we are way above that), people wind up in the hospital with heat-related problems. Try to do your outdoor activities in the early morning. If you are working or playing outdoors please stay well-hydrated and frequently seek indoor cooled or shady outdoor places. Never leave pets or people in a parked car. Symptoms can include dizziness, nausea and weakness. Look for help at: https://nmtracking.org/health/Heatstress/Heat.html. Of course, don’t forget your animals! (https://www.aspca.org/pet-care/general-pet-care/hot-weather-safety-tips).

Smoke is especially dangerous for folks with pre-existing respiratory conditions or COVID-19. In heavy smoke, you may want to avoid open windows and the use of swamp coolers. To find out how to create a clean indoor air space, check indoor air quality tips at: https://nmtracking.org/. Click on the Environment Tab and select Air Quality.

One way to beat the heat: the Corrales Community Pool, open every day 12:30-5:30 for open swim! Also, see the beautiful new gazebo located at Liam Knight Pond, built by John Keyser who already donated his lovely crane and fish sculptures to Corrales. Thank you so much.

The Corrales Community Library is fully open now. Check out what’s happening in the June Newsletter.

Music in Corrales continues to bring wonderful music to our Village. For a full 2021-2022 lineup, see the Music in Corrales Website (https://www.musicincorrales.org/current-season/).

COVID update. We are getting really close to our 60% fully vaccinated goal (57.2%). Commander Lattin heard the state may even reach 70% in July. As I write this, there are only 3 reported cases in Sandoval County but 2 are here in Corrales. Please be careful, especially if you are not yet fully vaccinatedEvery vaccinated person makes a difference and gets us back to full-speed, both for ourselves and our businesses.

Work on the repaving of Corrales Road is underway. The project got off to a slightly bumpy start but is now on the right path. The contractor is communicating with the Fire, Police and Public Works Departments to address issues/unreasonable delays. Next week, look for a video of the project. Currently, the paving is complete up to Via Oreada going northbound and  Via Faisan going southbound. Please use alternate routes whenever possible. Thank you for your patience.

The Village Administration is here to help and don't forget to reach out to your district Councilors as well. You can find their contact information and scroll down to Governing Body. Not sure who your Councilor is? Call Village Clerk Aaron Gjullin and he will help you (505-897-0502, Ext 208).

Join us Tuesday, June 15 for an in-person Council Meeting at 6:30. Capacity in the Chambers will be 40 individuals. The Village will also provide a zoom link to be able to watch the meeting online. To see the agenda, public packet and a link to join via zoom.

This weekend is going to be HOT. Go out early and take water. Shop local and get the drop on Father’s Day (June 20th). Don’t forget the Corrales Growers Market Sunday 9-12. Whatever you do, stay safe and cool, Corrales-style.
