Mayor's Message for June 3rd, 2022

Bicycle

Today is World Bicycle Day, as declared by the United Nations in 2018. According to the UN Resolution, today is the day to recognize “the uniqueness, longevity and versatility of the bicycle, which has been in use for two centuries, and that it is a simple, affordable, reliable, clean, and environmentally fit sustainable means of transport.” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Bicycle_Day

This weekend is the 11th annual Corrales Garden Tour. It all started because some people in the village wondered why we didn’t have a garden tour. Then, during the organization of the group, it became apparent they would benefit being a non-profit, so they associated with Corrales MainStreet to use their non-profit status. Money generated by the tour is placed in a fund that was to be used for beautifying what was to be a pedestrian access route along Corrales Road. However, the New Mexico Department of Transportation has continued to make it difficult to proceed. https://corrales-gardentour.com/

Remember the library book sale is also this weekend, both Saturday and Sunday, 6/4 and 6/5/2022, 9 AM until 4PM. The last two hours on Sunday is the $5 bag of books sale from 2-4 PM, that is, as many books you can get in a bag for $5. \

First Sunday is this Sunday. It is a Corrales MainStreet marketing program to advertise the businesses in the village. There will be artists and vendors in locations throughout the village – just follow the signs. Shop and eat local. Don’t overlook the Growers’ Market on Sunday. https://visitcorrales.com/calendar/first-sunday-corrales-arts-in-the-village-lmzsf-5tdp6-ce9c7-t9n8g-fc9nm

The Village Council will be holding a special meeting June 8th at 6 PM.  Traditionally, Council only meets once a month during the summer months, but we have some issues that need to be dealt with expeditiously and can't wait for the regularly scheduled meeting June 21st.  The biggest issue we will be discussing is water for irrigation. Jason Casuga, CEO and Chief Engineer for the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District (MRGCD) will be giving a presentation on the status of water for irrigation and the Corrales siphon repairs. The meeting will be both in-person in the council chambers, or can be viewed via Zoom at: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83321181503?pwd=bzB4Z2dQRmFEamk5blB4VVdURklDQT09

The Village Clean Up day is June 11 from 8 AM to 12 PM. Bring your materials to 500 Jones Road. No hazardous materials, TV, monitors, refrigerators, freezers, tires, construction materials, or commercial waste will be accepted.

Please express your appreciation to our firefighters who are carefully monitoring our Bosque, watching for any fires, in addition to their other responsibilities. Thanks should also go to our incredible police force who keep us safe. Not enough is said about these two groups of professionals who continue to manage their obligations and take on others while being understaffed.
