Mayor's Message for March 19th, 2021

Spring Flowers

Winds arrived this week; right on time since this weekend brings the official start of spring! This spring brings us really good tidings, with the promise of openness and the return of green leaves and gardening.

The Corrales Community Library in-person visitor link is up and running. To reserve a spot, please go to https://www.picktime.com/corralescommunitylibrary

Music in Corrales has a wonderful surprise for the community, offering a free online recital by world famous violinist Midori and a live conversation with her. The recital is March 30 at 7 pm, followed by a question and answer session. For more information about Midori and to get your free tickets check out the March 2021 Special Issue of Music in Corrales NOTES. https://www.musicincorrales.org/concert/midori-recital-live-q-a/#tribe-…

Music in Corrales also continues to offer online video concerts. Next up is the classical trio Ensemble Schumann. You’ll be able to hear the concert anytime from Saturday March 20 through Sunday March 28. Tickets are available at: https://www.musicincorrales.org/concert/ensemble-schumann/#tribe-tickets.

Today’s the day to get free daffodils from Corrales MainStreet and Kiwanis. Safely drive-through the Corrales Growers’ Market on from 1-6 to pick up your bunch. Donations are welcome and will support the Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation.

The Legislative Session ends this Saturday. It’s been a very different session with several ground-breaking laws passed. At this point, Corrales is set to receive monies for numerous projects totaling about $900,000 dollars. It will allow the Village to remove a number of items from our Capital Outlay wishlist. Final confirmation will come once the Governor signs the budget. The Village is grateful to our legislators: Jane Powdrell-Culbert, Daymon Ely and Brenda McKenna for their continued attention and efforts on our behalf.

The New Mexico Recyclers Coalition is premiering its documentary film, “New Mexicans Taking action on Plastic Waste.” Check out the trailer here: https://vimeo.com/507278265. The event is free; you just need to register on the NMRC website.

Our vaccination clinic continues to excel. Many citizens have reached out to express gratitude to Commander Lattin and the Village staff for their above and beyond efforts in getting folks their shots. More good news: Commander Lattin has received her DOH provider status, a certification that will help us even more to get everyone vaccinated. New Mexico has seen about a 60% drop in cases. Keep up the good work Corraleños.

This next Tuesday, March 23rd, join the Village Council Meeting at 6:30. For an Agenda, public packet and instructions on how to zoom in, please check the website at https://www.corrales-nm.org/villagecouncil/page/regular-council-meeting…. Be in the know!

Good weather for getting outside this weekend. We may have a few spring showers on Sunday. Revel in the outdoors and our local shopping. Lots of March Madness basketball if you are so inclined. Whatever you do, please enjoy yourselves and stay safe, Corrales-style.
