Mayor's Message for March 27th, 2020

Flyer for the Rainbow Trail

Ah…spring in New Mexico. The blooming of the trees, the bursting of the daffodils and the blowing of the winds. We can still get outdoors, but do be careful when it gets so windy and dusty.

Responding to its closure, Corrales Community Library and our terrific librarians have developed Our Shelter in Place Library. They will be adding more content so check it often. Remember, if you are trying to figure out how to get an e-book, an audio book or learn to use a new app, please contact brynn [at] corraleslibrary.org.

Essential services are ongoing and employees are responding to citizen requests via telephone and email. Thanks to Aaron Gjullin for adding and updating information.

The Corrales Senior Center, while closed, is still serving about 45 meals to the Homebound and another 45-50 in their drive through lane. Tammy Meyer, Center Director, reports that the staff  “is rolling with the punches, still have a wonderful sense of humor and a servant's heart.”

The number one mission of the Village is to protect your health and safety. Therefore, Corrales has implemented all the measures in the Governor’s Directives. This is the best way to slow the spread of the virus, flatten the curve and preserve our precious medical resources.

Businesses are really impacted, but we can still support our locals entrepreneurs. How? Buy a gift card, pay now for a delayed services (haircut, etc.) or get food by delivery or pick-up. Do use your social media to spread the word. Corrales MainStreet has created a special page to help identify what services our businesses are offering: find it through visitcorrales.com

Join the Corrales Rainbow Trail! Kids all over the world are making rainbow art and putting it in their windows to cheer up passing neighbors and friends. Take a pic of your masterpiece and post it or just let people enjoy discovering them as they walk around town. You don’t need to be a kid to create a rainbow. Check it out at: https://www.facebook.com/The-Rainbow-Trail-Corrales-NM-101845061469141/. Many thanks to Mo Cooke, her children and to Janet Blair for helping with this project. Let’s see how many rainbows we can make.

These are difficult times, aren’t they? They test our resilience and our values. We must cope with justifiable anxiety and overcome it for ourselves and others. I see many acts of kindness and generosity. I see Road Runner employees, truckers, grocery workers, health care workers and first responders putting it on the line for the rest of us. These so-called “ordinary” citizens are displaying the kind of grit and can-do attitude that we call American. We can do no less.

We are in this together. Let’s do it right, Corrales-style.

Jo Anne Roake
Mayor of Corrales
