Mayor's Message for May 14th, 2021

Liam Knight Pond

The days are hot and the gardens are loving it. Winds can be gusty, so please keep your guard up against fire.

The Village of Corrales partners with Mainstreet New Mexico to support our local businesses, develop our arts and culture district and preserve our history. Want to learn more about Corrales MainStreet? Check out www.visitcorrales.com. Local Executive Director, Sandy Rasmussen, is retiring. Thank you, Sandy for all your hard work.  So, the Corrales MainStreet Board is hiring a new Executive Director. As Corrales moves out of the pandemic, the new Executive Director will be pivotal in moving the community ahead in strong and new ways. If you have questions or inquiries, contact Sue Evatt at evatt [at] verison.net or 505-792-7729.

Music in Corrales will be offering a virtual concert by chamber group Telegraph Quartet on May 22nd.  Music in Corrales has been bringing us music for 34 seasons! The 35th season starts in September and depending on the pandemic, may be in-person or on-line. Either way it will be great and a big thanks to MIC for bringing us wonderful music for decades. For tickets and a peek at next year’s line-up, see the May 2021 Music in Corrales NOTES in the pictures below!

The long-awaited remodel of the Corrales Police Department is underway. Facility Build is working quickly to get the project done. When finished, the Department will sport updated offices, common area and bathrooms.

Congratulations to the class of 2021! Luckily, they are able to have an actually commencement this year and get the recognition they deserve. We wish you the best of luck in whatever comes next.

For 33 years, the juried Old Church Fine Arts Show in October has been a signature event. Now it’s time for artists to submit work. Interested? Please check out this information (https://www.corraleshistory.org/ )

Children 12-15 years old are eligible for vaccine. Parents can pre-register their children for vaccination (https://vaccinenm.org/). As soon as the state approves, Commander Lattin will sponsor a special vaccination clinic for children. Sandoval County is having very few cases and Corrales has had only one new case in days. Keep up the good work.

A popular fundraiser has returned this year. Planters made from fire boots and helmets are back at the Corrales Fire Department. All proceeds go directly to CFD. Citizens can drop by the station, pick up a planter and pay at the station. Let's support our Fire Department and get some pretty cool plants at the same time.

Here’s a 7-day head start to get organized. Corrales Cleanup Day is Saturday May 22 from 8-12 at Corrales Public Works at 4105 Corrales Road (enter from 500 Jones Road). You can dispose of household discards, green waste and appliances (except refrigerators or televisions). Sorry, no tires, hazardous or commercial waste. Big thank you to the guys in Public Works.

Keep Corrales Clean and Litter Free.  Some have noted an uptick in litter; please be careful. Consider taking along a bag to pick up litter as you enjoy our trails and pathways. Much appreciated.

The Corrales Community Pool will open June 5 (through August 8) and you can register for swim lessons and parties right now (https://campscui.active.com/orgs/VillageofCorrales). All Village outdoor recreational facilities are open.

This weekend you may be busy finishing up your taxes for Monday, May 17th.  Or maybe you are already done. Either way, take some time to go outside and to patronize our local businesses. On Sunday, don’t forget the Corrales Growers’ Market, 9-12. Whatever you do, enjoy yourselves, Corrales-style.
