Mayor's Message for May 29th, 2020

Graduation Parade

As we reach the end of May, the weather is pure New Mexico: wonderfully cool mornings, blistering hot afternoons and often windy. Because it is hot and dry, take care to protect yourself and your animals from prolonged exposure, hydrate and stay alert for fire danger.

Today the governor issues a new public health order as New Mexico continues to reopen slowly and safely. New Mexico remains one of the only states to meet all the White House criteria. Learn more at How We Reopen Safely: www.covidexitstrategy.org. Updated materials are also posted on our village website home page under COVID 19 Resources.

Patio dining is now allowed. As of June 1, our restaurants can also offer indoor dining. Barbers, salons and retailers can also open. Let’s support them! Check for details at: visitcorrales.com.

We haven’t defeated the virus yet so the same simple rules apply. If you're sick or vulnerable, stay home. Otherwise, venture out into the world. Just remember to follow COVID safe practices (CSP): avoid large groups, maintain social distancing and wear a mask for the protection of others. If all goes well (and it’s up to our own actions) in a short time we’ll be able to enjoy more recreational activities. I recognize that many of us are both really ready to get out there and a bit wary. But if we follow CSP, are prepared and pragmatic, we don't need to be afraid. We just need to be careful for ourselves and our neighbors.

The Corrales Graduates 2020 parade was a real success. Cars lined up all along the parade route to cheer on the excited graduates in their decorated cars and trucks. It felt really good to have a little fun. Have a great photo of this or another wonderful Corrales event? Please send to agjuillin [at] corrales-nm.org and he’ll post it on the Corrales Community Gallery page

On June 1, the Corrales Community Library will be offering curbside pickup of library materials and also rolling out the Summer Reading Program for children. Kids can sign up on the library website Prizes for completed reading logs!

The New Mexico Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of the Special Olympics made a stop in Corrales today. You can catch a live stream of the modified relay on Facebook. (https://www.facebook.com/nmletr/).

This Sunday visit the in-person Corrales Growers’ Market from 9-12. Life is indeed opening up. Whatever you do, stay safe and hopeful, Corrales-style.
