Mayor's Message for May 6th, 2022

Tree removal

Summer is definitely here - we will see 90 degrees for highs this weekend. Plants can go in the ground, but be sure you have a plan for water, since we may not see much moisture this summer. Irrigation, if that’s your source, may stop by the end of June. DON’T BURN LEAVES OR GRASSES, as burning is still banned in the Village. It’s like a tinder box around here, just waiting for a spark, so be careful with your outdoor activities.

The Village has been working to keep residents safe from dangerous trees. This week our crew, consisting of 3 firefighters, 2 police officers and our public works team, was out near Dandelion Road to remove a dead tree that was in the Village right-of-way.  Removal of hazardous trees such as this one is a priority due to the high winds and extreme fire danger the Village is facing currently. The Village has a list of hazardous trees that they take care of as time and staffing allows.

Start planning for Spring (really summer) cleanup on June 11, 2022, where you’ll be able to take your green trash to the rec center. Other types of trash may qualify but keep an eye on the village website for more information in the coming weeks.

Roadrunner Waste now allows customers to pay invoices online, and with that comes the option to go paperless. Customers who have set up online bill pay will still receive a paper invoice by default. If you would like to change that, you can log into your account (or set one up) at www.wcicustomer.com and select “go paperless.”

The Village is working on the creation of a new time capsule, that will be opened at the Village’s 75th anniversary in 2046. Donations for the time capsule can still be dropped off today only at Village Hall. You can check out some of the items that were salvaged from the time capsule opened back in November for the Village’s 50th anniversary, as well as some of those going into the new time capsule, at the Heritage Day event on May 14th at the Historic Old San Ysidro Church.
