Mayor's Message for May 7th, 2021

50th Year of Incorporation Banner

Well, we got temps in the high 80’s, but we also got some showers. Right now, it is hot and dry, so stay on fire safety alert.

We are TURQUOISE!  Here is a capacity snapshot (I=indoor; O=outdoor). Retail (75% I); Food and drink establishments (75% I and O); Bars and Clubs (33% I 75% O); Recreation facilities (50% I 75% O); Houses of Worship (100%). Mass gatherings are 150. But PHOs are still in place; masks and social distancing haven’t gone away. WHEN IN DOUBT – stick with COVID SAFE PRACTICES. Full reopening depends on a 60% state vaccination rate by June 30, so get those shots. Sandoval is at 53.8%. For complete details, check out NMDOH (https://cv.nmhealth.org/). Village outdoor recreational facilities are open at 75%.  On May 10, the Village Administration Office will reopen for in-person appointments.

More good news. Next week, the Corrales Community Library will be expanding its hours and its capacity. Starting Wednesday May 19, Melisa, the Children’s Librarian, will host a story hour for kids and their parents every Wednesday in La Entrada Park at 10 am.  Also, check out May’s Adult Learning programs at the Corrales Community Library

Turquoise means tourism as well. Tour Corrales first, but Sandoval County and the whole state offer lots of possibilities. Check out the See Sandoval flyer for information (https://seesandoval.org/) , New Mexico True and New Mexico Magazine (“5 Things to Do This Weekend”) for many ways to beat cabin fever and help our economy.  (https://www.newmexico.org/nmmagazine/articles/post/5-things-to-do-this-weekend-march-19-21/)

As part of our 50th anniversary, the Administration Building Bulletin Board is sporting a pictorial celebration of 50 years of incorporated life, courtesy of the CHS Archives Committee. Corrales is also celebrating 300 years of Village heritage (see flyers and instructions below).  Thank you – Corrales is lucky to have a group tending so carefully to our history.

This upcoming Tuesday, May 11, there will be a Corrales Village Council Meeting at 6:30. For one last time, we hope, it will be completely virtual. You can get an Agenda which includes Zoom instructions and the public packet by checking on the Village website. And next Thursday, at 4:00 pm there will be an in-person Council work study meeting about next year’s budget. The Village will send its annual budget to the New Mexico Department of Finance Administration in June. The May 25 Council Meeting will be in person with safety protocols allowing about 40 citizens to attend; there will also be a way for the public to listen remotely.

This weekend brings us MOTHER’S DAY.  Many people are throwing caution to the winds and planting all their tomato plants. Please enjoy (safely) our newfound freedoms to go and do things we haven’t been able to in more than a year. On Sunday, don’t forget to visit the Corrales Growers’ Market from 9-12. Whatever you do this weekend, have some fun, Corrales-style.

Mayor of Corrales
