Mayor's Message for November 12th, 2021

Sagebrush Trail Construction

It’s mid-November and the temperatures are still in the 60’s. Still, those burgeoning piles of fallen leaves remind us that cold weather and the holidays are almost here.

Did you know that Corrales clinics have administered 9349 vaccinations? CFD has Pfizer, Moderna and J & J vaccines, and appointments are available at multiple times during the week. 300 Pfizer pediatric shots have already been given and 800 more pediatric doses should arrive next week.  With the latest surge in cases, vaccination and boosters are our best option. If you are having trouble finding an appointment or have questions about vaccines, please call Commander Lattin at 505-702-4182. Many thanks for this great work.

State Health officials still have a indoor mask mandate in place.  This mandate is expected to stay in place until New Mexico is down to 200 or fewer new cases per day.  Currently, the rate has been at about 500 cases or more per day.  For more information on the current public health orders, you can visit the New Mexico Department of Health's website at https://cv.nmhealth.org/public-health-orders-and-executive-orders/.

Construction has started on the Sagebrush trail, which, when finished, will connect to the Thompson Fenceline Trail and provide a continuous cycling loop throughout Corrales. It’s the culmination of a 20-year trail project. Thanks go to the Bicycle & Pedestrian Advisory Commission and Public Works for seeing this through, and to Sandoval County Commissioner Jay Block for monies to help fund construction.

The Village will be starting a pilot program for glass recycling, likely early next week. Look for a Road Runner dumpster on the north side of the Courthouse in the Administrative Complex parking lot (4324 Corrales Road). We hope this will be a welcome addition to Village services. Kudos to Chief Martinez for working out the details.

It’s time to unearth the Time Capsule! It’s all happening a week from today on November 19th at 1 pm at the Administration Complex at 4324 Corrales Road. What will we find? No idea! But at least now we have the combination to the box. Come join the fun. We intend to repack a new time capsule, so please send Village Clerk Melanie Romero your suggestions for items that will best express current times to future Corraleños. She can be reached at mromero [at] corrales-nm.org.

On November 14th, enjoy the sculpture and artwork of Jim and Angelique Lowry through a visual tour sponsored by the Corrales Art Center. For further information and registration, go to: https://corralesartscenter.org/.

Corrales Historical Society will present a tribute to Alan Minge at its 48th Annual Meeting on November 28th at 2 pm and then sponsor the Winter Craft Show with beautiful handcrafted items for sale on December 3rd - 5th from 10 am to 5 pm. Both events are free at the Old Church. https://www.corraleshistory.org.

Yesterday there was a lovely Veterans Day celebration in La Entrada Park, led by VFW Post 5432 and assisted by Girl Scout Troop 1919 (with members from Boy Scout Troop 714). November 11th is a day to honor the service of veterans. Let’s follow their example by serving our communities and our country in ways both big and small.

On March 1st, 2022, local elections will be held for Mayor, and for Councilors from Districts 1, 3 and 4. If you want to stand for elective office, you must confirm your status with Sandoval County as a registered voter within your District by December 1st, 2021.  The Sandoval County Clerk can be reached at 505-867-7577 if you have questions regarding your registration.  You can also check your voter registration status by going to https://voterportal.servis.sos.state.nm.us/WhereToVote.aspx.  Once you enter your personal information, it will tell you what districts you are currently registered in. If you are not sure which district you live in, or have more questions, please give Melanie Romero a call at 505-897-0502. Candidate filing day will be Tuesday, January 4th, 2022 between 9 am and 5 pm at the Village Clerk’s office.

The weather will continue to be very nice this weekend, so you know what to do. Enjoy our beautiful outdoors, do some local shopping (https://visitcorrales.com) and perhaps stock up on turkey and pumpkin (only two weeks until Thanksgiving). Whatever you choose to do, stay safe and enjoy yourself, Corrales-style.
