Mayor's Message for November 15th 2019

Fall Trees turning yellow

It is the middle of November and we are racing towards Thanksgiving! The weather is COLD, so bundle up and take care of your animals. Also, don’t give in to the temptation to leave your car running while you dash back into the house (for just a sec).

Last weekend really exemplified the best of our Village. There were activities to showcase horses, honor veterans and give generously to seniors, children and families. You can still drop off food and toys at the Fire Station or the Village offices. Your acts of kindness will make a difference in someone’s life. We really do live in a wonderful place.

This Saturday, it’s the Annual Fall Cleanup Day, from 8 am to noon. What a great way to get rid of unwanted items. Come to Corrales Public Works, 4105 Corrales Road, west of the Corrales Post Office. Enter on Double S Road. What can you bring? Furniture, mattresses, tools, miscellaneous metals, etc.; green waste (leaves, yard cuttings, shrubs), and appliances, such as washers, dryers and microwaves.

Cleaning up will give you such a sense of accomplishment. Besides, you need to make room for all the new stuff you’ll acquire, right?

Sorry, the Village CANNOT accept refrigerators, televisions, hazardous materials (household chemicals, paints, thinners) or commercial, construction or special waste. Also, tires (up to 4) need to be taken to the Sandoval County/Rio Rancho Recycling Center, 2700 Iris Boulevard on Saturdays from 8 am -1 pm. Sandoval County requires proof of residency.

Construction update. Meadowlark is finished and open. I want to give a big shout out to Village staff for its oversight and to all residents for hanging in there during completion of this long-awaited construction project.

More and more items are being uploaded onto our new Village website. If you spot an omission, please let us know so we can make the site even more user-friendly. Thanks.

Please come visit with me next Wednesday for the next Mayor’s Meet up. Noon to one, we’ll be gathering at the Jones House for questions and conversation, coffee and cookies. Hope to see you there (behind and to the west of the Post Office).

Our Village would not run without the volunteers who serve on our Boards and Commissions. Several of our wonderful long-term members are resigning and we owe you. Thanks. If you are interested in serving on the Bicycle and Pedestrian Commission or Bosque Commission, please pick up an application at the Village Offices. Your community needs you!

Have a wonderful weekend. Whatever you do, enjoy your weekend, Corrales style.
