Mayor's Message for November 1st 2019

Trunk r Treat

WOW! As I write this, it is 21 degrees. Of course, this weekend, we are supposed to bounce up to the 70’s. Weather is never dull in New Mexico. However, as the cold sets in, please take steps to winterize your home (avoid those frozen water pipes) and protect your animals.

Many folks are recovering from awesome Halloween activities. I’m sending a special thank you to Lynn Siverts and Aaron Gjullin of the Parks and Recreation Department for once again hosting Trick ‘r Trunk. It has become a signature event here in Corrales.

This weekend, there will be a time change. We “fall back,” so for any clocks that don’t automatically reset themselves, do remember to set your clocks back an hour on Saturday night. Otherwise, you will be an hour early for all your activities on Sunday.

Early voting for the 2019 Sandoval County Local Election is still happening today and tomorrow at the Community Center, 4326 Corrales Road (northeast corner of Administration complex). To vote on Tuesday, November 5, go to the polls at the Recreation Center, 500 Jones Road, from 7am to 7 pm. There are important bond issues and seats on commissions and boards. In a traditionally low turn-out election, your vote will truly make a difference! Check out sample ballots on the website under the 2019 Election Information quick link: http://www.sandovalcountynm.gov.

Kudos to Trenton Koger, whose Eagle Scout Project has made a real difference to safety along the Rio Grande River. With help from Corrales Fire Chief Anthony Martinez, Trenton designed and placed mile marker signs along the Corrales river stretch last year. As imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, these signs are now installed along the river as far north as Sandia Pueblo and as far south as Isleta. A new project will extend the signs north to the 550 bridge in Bernalillo. These locational signs provide a huge safety advantage for first responders and those in peril along the river. Congratulations to Corrales for leading the way with this great idea.

Three of our Corrales firefighters (along with some equipment) are part of a joint task force that is in California fighting the fires. We wish them well and are counting on their safe return.

This Sunday Arts Alive! will present its special take on Dia de los Muertos. Enjoy special entertainment, refreshments and Day of the Dead merchandise. November 3, 1-5 p.m., all along Corrales Road.

On Sunday morning, from 9-12, please head to the Corrales Growers’ Market. it is getting towards the end of the spring/summer season. A chance to see and be seen, enjoy wonderful produce. music, pastries and burritos! Whatever you do, enjoy your weekend, Corrales-style.
