Mayor's Message for November 20th, 2020

Cranes in Field

The weather has been beautiful.  Breathe in some of that fresh air. This weekend will be a bit cloudier and cooler, ushering in Thanksgiving week.

Over half of the CARES business grant monies have been approved. 25 businesses have been awarded for a total of about $158,000. We have a couple more to review, but in the next phase, those businesses will be able to reapply for more funds so we can disperse the entire $265,000.

Angel Road is being paved right after Thanksgiving week. Hooray! A traffic plan and informational flyers have been distributed to residents. Questions? Contact mchavez [at] corrales-nm.org.

The COVID news is alarming.  To combat the surge, La Entrada Park and all Recreation Center facilities are closed. Library curbside delivery continues through tomorrow (Saturday) and then will be closed next week. However, check out the library website for other entertainment options. Government services are ongoing, but remotely. The Village is committed to your safety. What we as human beings can do to safeguard ourselves and others is to keep apart and avoid situations where spread occurs. Let’s cooperate and get ourselves back on the road to recovery. The complete current public health order and much more is available on our website under the COVID-19 banner.

There is good news about potential vaccines and great news that New Mexico will be part of the Pfizer trial (https://www.lcsun-news.com/story/news/2020/11/18/pfizer-selects-new-mexico-covid-19-vaccine-pilot-program/6340917002/).  We are playing a vital role in making sure vaccines will be quickly and widely distributed.

Coming soon! The Village has been hard at work on a safety video featuring your favorite employees. It’s been a fun project and should make you smile and even want to wear a mask.

There is an opening on the Village Planning and Zoning Commission. If you are interested, you can get an application on the Village website or contact Village Clerk Aaron Gjullin for more information at agjullin [at] corrales-nm.org

Clearly, 2020 has been a rough year, which makes Thanksgiving especially meaningful. We all have good things in our lives. I know I am thankful to be living in this community. Whatever your joys may be, celebrate this holiday (safely) Corrales-style.

Jo Anne Roake

Mayor of Corrales
