Mayor's Message for November 26th, 2020 (Special Thanksgiving Edition)

Happy Thanksgiving

Yes, it is getting colder. There’s even a slight chance of rain this weekend.

Special safety videos from the Village! Please click on these you-tube links for the Corrales staff’s personal safety message to you. It will make you smile and want to wear your mask!

While the virus rages on, there is some good news. A free saliva test developed by Curative is now available. The test is simple, painless and effective. Register at curative.com. Also, you can expect faster test results from an NMDOH test now that results are being sent by text. These are important steps to make sure as many of us as possible get tested to prevent unwitting spread of the virus. Finally, the development of several potential vaccines should give us hope.

The NM Legislature Special Session handily passed a 330 million-dollar relief package, to include a one-time $1200 payment to the unemployed and (up to) $50,000 grants to small businesses. The aid package reallocates about 319 million in federal CARES ACT money to make sure every dollar is spent in New Mexico and does not revert to the federal government at the end of 2020. https://www.krqe.com/news/politics-government/new-mexico-legislature-pa…

The Village has succeeded in distributing the local CARES monies. Special credit goes to the Village employees Account Specialist Cindy Gomez, Fire Commander Tanya Lattin, Village Clerk Aaron Gjullin and Parks and Recreation Director Lynn Siverts. They devoted many hours to refining the application, advertising the program, assisting the businesses, reviewing the applications and getting the disbursements out. The Village is confident the entire $255,000 will be disbursed to local businesses by the December deadline.

The Fire Department responded quickly to the concerns of the equestrian community about the new metal entrances and rebuilt the older style horse entrance at Romero Road. Thank you Chief! See photos below.

Corrales wanted to make sure it was a Happy Thanksgiving for all. Thanks to generous donations by individuals and businesses such as C3’s Bistro and the Tijuana Bar (aka Perea’s), 22 families received food for Thanksgiving meals. As Commander Lattin said, “Corrales, as always, came through.”

Holiday giving program. Corrales has always had a Giving Tree at the Administration Office and a Food Drive at the Fire Department. Things must change this year, but no pandemic is going to stop us from giving needed gifts of food, toys and clothing to local families.

"As we head in to the Holiday season, things will be different this year as we want to keep everyone safe from COVID -19. We still have a need for food and presents for Corrales families, but cannot do a normal food drive and setup a giving tree. We will not have groups help with food sorting, food box setup or present wrapping. What we will be able to do as a community is help support those in need. People wanting to get gift tags this year, or to adopt a family for food need to contact Tanya Lattin directly at 505-702-4182 or tlattin [at] corrales-nm.org and get information on what a child wants and needs. Since there will be a very limited number of people to make food boxes if you would like to help supply food for families, donations of money made to Kiwanis Club of Corrales with the memo of "Fire Department" or" Food and Present Drive" is the best way to help. The Fire Department will be making orders of food online to supply to families. If you have already purchased food items, that is ok as well, contact me so I can arrange to get the items. The drop off of large amounts of food items to cleaned and sorted by one or two people will be very difficult. The address to send checks is Corrales Fire, 4920 Corrales Road, Corrales NM 87048. If you would like to wrap presents, we can arrange to get you presents to be wrapped at your home. If you have any questions please call or email. Be patient on a reply as Tanya has been extremely busy. For those of you who have been helping purchase food and internet for families in Corrales since March, we thank you again. If you have already reached out to me, I will be getting you all the information this weekend. Thank you as always for all of your help each year."

The colder weather does not mean you can’t bundle up and safely enjoy the outdoors. Please remember to wear a mask and leash the dog. Thank you for being Corrales-style; you are an amazing community.
