Mayor's Message for November 5th, 2021

Thank you Veterans

The weather continues to be in the 60’s and 70’s, with light winds. Let’s just enjoy this glorious patch, shall we?

Daylight Savings ends Sunday, November 7th at 2 a.m. It’s “fall back” time, so set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night to save yourself from being an hour early all day long on Sunday!

Veterans Day is Thursday November 11th, honoring all who have served honorably in the military. This holiday is celebrated on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in remembrance of the time the conflict with Germany ended in 1918. As a nation, we owe a great deal to our veterans. VFW Post 5432 will host a memorial in La Entrada Park at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Village offices will be closed Thursday in observance.

Corrales Community Library is launching a new website this weekend. This is great news, as it has been a long process. Kudos to all the library staff and all the others who have worked hard to make it happen. You can take a look at website.

COVID cases continue to bedevil us. Please wear your mask, get vaccinated and carry your vaccination card with you. You can take a picture on your phone if you don't want to carry the card with you. Corrales Fire Department is now vaccinating kids 5-11 with the newly approved Pfizer pediatric vaccine. For more information, contact Commander Tanya Lattin at (505) 702-4182. Please, for our community, do everything you can to protect yourself and others.

Our hearts go out to the Komadina family whose son, Spencer, was allegedly killed by his roommate in an altercation. As the first homicide Corrales has suffered in 19 years, it is a reminder that violence touches us all. Please join me in wishing the family every possible comfort.

Trick-r-Trunk was a fabulous event. It was an example of the wellbeing our community can experience when we work together to bring joy. Hundreds of trick or treaters came to the Parks and Recreation fields to enjoy the decorated cars and trucks and mini-haunted houses! Thanks to everyone who went all out to entertain our youngsters, and to Parks and Recreation Director Lynn Siverts for making it happen.

There is a Council Meeting next Tuesday night at 6:30 pm. Find the Agenda, which will include the Zoom link, and Public Packet. Due to continuing public health concerns, this meeting will be via Zoom.

The Corrales Art Center Exploring Artful Places series will be hosting a virtual tour called “Enveloped in Beauty: The Sculpture Gardens and Artwork of Jim and Angelique Lowry” on Sunday, November 14th, 2021 at 3 p.m.  Tickets are $15, with all proceeds benefiting the Arts Center.  You can purchase tickets from the Corrales art center website https://corralesartscenter.org/ or by calling 505-269-8385.

This weekend will be perfect for outdoor activities. Check out what’s happening in the Village at visitcorrales.com. Don’t miss the final regular season Corrales Growers’ Market from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. on Sunday.  Whatever you do, please stay safe and enjoy yourselves, Corrales-style.
