Mayor's Message for November 8th 2019

Thank you our Veterans

This Monday is Veterans Day; Americans honor all those who have served on our behalf in conflicts old and new. Corrales will be hosting something special. On Monday, November 11, at precisely 11 am, Corrales Horacio Martinez VFW Post 5432 will dedicate the Corrales Veterans Memorial. The new obelisk will be located adjacent to the flagpole in La Entrada Park. We expect members from all service branches, state and federal dignitaries and of course, the public. Please do come (a little bit before 11).

Corrales is one of only 9 communities in New Mexico to receive a “Tree City” designation from Tree USA. Thanks go to the Tree Preservation Advisory Committee which submitted the application and especially to Don Welsh who coordinated the effort. Tree Cities spend at least $2 a year per resident, including tree maintenance, tree plantings and volunteer hours. We also receive free seedlings for residents to celebrate Arbor Day. With input from the Tree Preservation Committee and Sandoval Master Gardeners, the Village may be able to do more to protect our trees now and into the future.

On Saturday, November 9, CAC (Corrales Art Center) will be having a “Got Art, Corrales!” event at the Old Church, 960 Old Church Road, from 5-7pm. There are only 60 tickets available and you will get a piece of art in the deal. For more information, email: info [at] corralesartscenter.org or https://corralesartscenter.orgcorralesartscenter.org

On Sunday, November 10, The Christmas de los Caballos Parade starts at 1:30. It begins (rain or shine) at the Wagner Farm Stand (5000 Corrales Road) and ends at the Corrales Recreation Center. (500 Jones Road). You’ll see horses in finery and catch Santa and Mrs. Claus in their carriage. At the end of the parade, drop off non-perishable food and toys at the Top Form Arena or at the Fire Department (4920 Corrales Road). These items benefit local families and make their holidays bright. This wonderful event highlights both our equine heritage and our giving spirit. Many thanks to the Corrales Equestrian Advisory Commission and the Corrales Fire Department.

Since you will already be at the Jones property, please stop by the Jones House for the Village in the Village (VIV) fundraiser that is taking place Sunday, November 10, from 9am to 5 pm. There will be a wonderful array of collectibles and your purchases will help our senior citizens stay in their own homes for as long as possible.

As you can see, many Corrales volunteer groups give of their time to make our Village a more vibrant, caring and successful place. Thank you all.

Don’t forget to check our new website for updates on Village projects. Go to the Village of Corrales website, look at the bar on the bottom of the page and click on “Current Projects.” The Village Offices will be closed on Monday in honor of Veterans Day.

The next Corrales Growers Market is November 24, 2019. Mark your calendars! Whatever you do, enjoy your weekend, Corrales-style.
