Mayor's Message for October 15th, 2021

Sandias over Siphon Beach

Our first taste of winter arrived this week with early morning temperatures in the 30’s. Last chance to bring in frost-fragile plants. As we’ll be living indoors more, it’s time to make sure your heaters, fireplaces, smoke alarms and extinguishers are functioning properly. (http://www.nfpa.org/Public-Education/Staying-safe/Safety-equipment/Smoke-alarms/Installing-and-maintaining-smoke-alarms and https://resources.impactfireservices.com/how-often-should-fire-extinguishers-be-inspected). For more ideas on keeping your home and yard fire safe, contact the Corrales Fire Department at (505) 898-7501.

The Village of Corrales continues to be proactive in helping you get your COVID vaccinations and boosters. It’s easy to get a time slot and location by going to https://cvvaccine.nmhealth.org/. Need help? Call Commander Tanya Lattin at (505) 702-4182.

Early Voting begins on Saturday October 16th through October 30th at the Corrales Community Center, 4324 Corrales Road (northeast corner of Administrative Complex), Mondays through Saturdays, 10 am to 7 pm.

Not much in this election pertains to Corrales, with one big exception. Our primary school is part of the Albuquerque Public School District, so the school bond affects Corrales Elementary School, which is scheduled to receive $6.3 million for the first phase of a renovation/refurbishment project that will include a new gym, cafeteria and playgrounds. This is from rollover funds, so no increase to property tax for this bond. For more information, see the Albuquerque Journal endorsement ( https://abqjournal-nm-app.newsmemory.com/?publink=1470c8555_1345f69). Please vote!

There’s still time to buy some great local art. The 33rd Annual Corrales Fine Arts Show continues online through the 31st at https://www.corralesoldchurchshow.com/.

The next Music in Corrales concert takes place Saturday October 23rd at 3pm in La Entrada Park.  San Francisco based Friction Quartet will present both classical and modern works. BTW, the acoustics at the last La Entrada concert were wonderful. For details, go to https://www.musicincorrales.org/.

Sunday October 24th at 2pm, CHS Speaker’s Series presents Frederico Vigil, “The Story of Wine in New Mexico.” Free. Old San Ysidro Church, 966 Old Church Road.

Please bring candy (great excuse to buy those huge bags at Costco and Sam’s) to the Administration Office from now until October 29th. It will all be given out to the kids attending our terrific Halloween Trick-R-Trunk afternoon event on Sunday October 31st. Upcoming details on how to bring your decorated car or truck to the event. Thank you so much.

Every Friday my Mayor’s Message is posted online and sent via email by the Village Clerk, Aaron Gjullin. Today is his last official day of work here and I’d be remiss not to thank him for all the help he has given me in bringing this weekly message to you. He checks out my links, flyspecks my grammar and adds great visuals. Thanks Aaron!

Weather this weekend in the 60’s with light winds. Grab a jacket and get out there on our trails and fields. Check out local business information at https://visitcorrales.com. On Sunday, visit the Corrales Growers’ Market from 9am-12pm. Watch baseball or binge watch your favorite new show. Whatever you choose to do, have some fun Corrales-style.

Jo Anne Roake

Mayor of Corrales
