Mayor's Message for October 22nd, 2021

Fire Hydrant Line Work

The glory of fall is on full display in Corrales. Trees are wearing their coats of red, orange, and yellow, and it is spectacular.

Because New Mexico suffers from a low number of intensive care beds, it has activated crisis standards of care for our hospital system to ensure beds are there for the sickest. This crunch has been caused by increased demand for services after the 2020 shutdowns as well as our stubbornly high COVID case count. How can you help? Please, avoid hospitalization by getting vaccinated and getting your booster shots.

Boosters are on the way! The FDA and the CDC have made recommendations for booster vaccines for both Moderna and Johnson and Johnson so eligible New Mexicans will soon be able to get a booster for any of the 3 vaccines. Corrales Fire Department now offers vaccination and booster clinics with Pfizer and hopes to get authorization by next week to offer Moderna and Johnson and Johnson boosters as well. Register for vaccinations through the New Mexico vaccination portal https://cvvaccine.nmhealth.org/.  Update any changes to your chronic medical conditions and make sure your contact information has not changed.  If you need assistance, please call Commander Tanya Lattin at 505-702-4182.

More shots! There’s a FREE drive through flu shot clinic tomorrow, Saturday October 23rd, 9am-11:30am at the Sandoval County EOC (1500 Idalia Road, Bldg D). For more information, call (505) 867-2291, ext. 1707.

The Village continues to extend the fire suppression (fire hydrant) line to make the community safer. Work is now proceeding along Loma Larga north from Sagebrush.

Early voting is on until October 30th at the Corrales Community Center, 4324 Corrales Road (northeast corner of Administrative Complex), Mondays through Saturdays, 10 am-7 pm. Along with an APS school bond, there are several other items on the ballot. Be an informed voter! Get a sample ballot for your precinct at: https://www.sandovalcountynm.gov/elected-officials/county-clerk/bureau-of-elections/sample-ballots/.

Everyone who lives west of Loma Larga is getting a reminder letter from the Village about storm water retention requirements. These requirements are for the safety of all residents and require that storm water generated by your property be retained on your property. Please, if you have ponds that need to be cleaned out, now is the time! If you don’t know whether you have ponds or not, or if you have any concerns or problems, please call Sherri Rice, our friendly Compliance Officer, at 505-273-0143, who will come out and help you. The goal is to do your part to protect both your property and your neighbors’ property from storm water damage. Even small changes make a big difference, and by pulling together, there should be a noticeable improvement when the next rains come. Thank you.

Saturday, enjoy a Music in Corrales concert (Friction Quartet) in La Entrada Park at 3pmhttps://www.musicincorrales.org/.

On Sunday at 2pm, the Old Church is hosting a free Speaker’s Series talk at the Old Church on the Story of Wine in New Mexico.

The Village Administration (4324 Corrales Road) is happy to take candy donations for the Trick-R-Trunk event on October 31st.

Yes, you can get the Mayor’s Message sent directly to your email. Contact the Village (505-897-0502) for details.

There will be an in-person Council Meeting next Tuesday October 26th at 6:30pm, but you can also tune in on zoom. For the Agenda (with zoom link) and Public Packet.

Weather should be sunny and in the 70’s this weekend! Take a walk, ride your bike, shoot some hoops. You might visit the maze, watch chile roasting, or shop our local businesses (https://visitcorrales.com). Watch some great baseball games in the run-up to the World Series. Corrales Growers Market is always a treat on Sunday from 9-12. Whatever you choose to do, stay safe and have some fun, Corrales-style.
