Mayor's Message for October 29th, 2021

Trick-r-Trunk 2018

The beauty of Fall is still with us! Another week of above average temperatures, with cooler ones on the horizon. Despite some wind, the trees are still leaf-filled and glorious as we head into November.

Early voting continues at the Corrales Community Center, 4324 Corrales Road, through Saturday, October 30th, 10 am - 7pm. Find the sample ballot for your precinct at: https://www.sandovalcountynm.gov/elected-officials/county-clerk/bureau-of-elections/sample-ballots/. Election Day voting on Tuesday, November 2nd, is at the Community Recreation Center at 500 Jones Road 7 am - 7 pm. VOTE!

10-digit dialing in New Mexico is now necessary. New Mexicans must include area codes 505 and 575 when making calls. It’s all to accommodate the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 3-digit number 988 coming next July.

Corrales continues to suffer from high rates of COVID. Luckily, the Corrales Fire Department is offering vaccination clinics, where you can get your vaccines, boosters and even flu shots. Register at https://cvvaccine.nmhealth.org/. CFD has been picked to receive the first wave of pediatric vaccines when approved. Go us! For full information, call Commander Lattin at 505-702-4182.

Saturday night, October 30th, check out the Day of the Dead Celebration at Casa Perea Art Space from 6 pm - 9 pm.

On Halloween Sunday, join in the Trick-r-Trunk fun at the Recreation Center fields, 500 Jones Road, from 2 pm - 4 pm. Enjoy decorated vehicles, candy, a pet adoption event, and even a hot air balloon.

Please help me welcome new Village Clerk Melanie Romero. She’s already very busy and we are happy to have Melanie on board.

Work is beginning on the Sagebrush Bike/Pedestrian Trail this upcoming week.  The project is funded with $75,000 from Capital Outlay funds and $40,000 in funding from Sandoval County. We are very excited to be able to start work on this project after lots of great input from the community and help from our legislators and county commissioners.

Mark your calendars. On November 19th, at 2 pm, we will be unearthing the Corrales Time Capsule buried 25 years ago. We are not sure what we will find, and we will also be putting some items together to create a new time capsule for future Corraleños to enjoy. What would you put in a time capsule? A mask perhaps? Join the fun at the Administrative Complex, 4324 Corrales Road.

Throughout town, you may be spotting Little Free Libraries. Three libraries were purchased by Village in a Village (VIV) with a grant from Intel through MainStreet. These libraries are placed at Tierra Encantada, Sagebrush and near Dixon Road. They are a wonderful community addition. Many thanks to Nancy Handmaker, Lawrence Blank, Tom Armer, Redge Estell, Cindy Taylor, all the Board members who donated books, LFL Stewards Cecilia and Bill Dail, Renee Robillard and Jim Lynch and Brandon Steiner of Sunbelt Landscapes & Nursery. Truly takes a Village! Two of the libraries are memorials to long-time dearly missed members, Don Reightly and Bobbie Weinbaum. By the way, there are other Little Libraries sprinkled throughout town - we are a community of readers, are we not?

Now through Sunday is your last chance to catch the 33rd Annual Corrales Fine Arts Show at www.corralesoldchurchshow.com

Want to receive this Message directly to your email, please contact Village Clerk Melanie Romero with your email so she can add you to the list. She can be reached at mromero [at] corrales-nm.org or at 505-897-0502.

The weather gods are supposed to be with us this weekend. Get out there and enjoy Fall and Halloween activities. See what’s happening around town at https://visitcorrales.com. On Sunday, visit the Corrales Growers’ Market from 9 am - 12 pm, then come on back for Trick-r-Trunk from 2 pm - 4 pm. Whatever you do, please stay safe and enjoy yourselves, Corrales-style.

Jo Anne Roake

Mayor of Corrales
