Mayor's Message for October 8th, 2021

Balloons at Corrales Rec Center

Wow! What beautiful weather both on the ground and in the air. Everyone has amazing Balloon Fiesta pictures that show off our gorgeous home.

The Public Works Department made some upgrades to get the entrances to the Community Center and the Parks and Recreation gymnasium up to ADA standards. Kudos for their quick and expert work.

COVID numbers are up again, which is very frustrating. Pfizer boosters are now available. Please check  https://vaccinenm.org for eligibility. If you are not vaccinated, please reconsider your position. It’s easy to get vaccines or boosters. And of course, if you have questions, we have our own (not-so) secret weapon, Commander Tanya Lattin at (505)-702-4182.

Also on the COVID front are new treatment updates. If a person contracts COVID-19, vaccinated or unvaccinated,  and has any high risk factors for COVID complications (BMI 35 or higher, chronic kidney disease, diabetes,  Immunosuppressive disease, immunosuppressive treatments, cardiovascular disease, hypertension,  COPD or other respiratory disease or pregnancy) or is over the age of 65, it is recommended that they see if they need monoclonal antibody treatment.  Here is the link to information related to monocolonal antibody treatments: https://cv.nmhealth.org/covid-19-monoclonal-antibody-treatments/. Also, here is a direct link to the infusion center location: https://covid.infusioncenter.org/. Calling your primary care physician or emergency department can also assist you in getting treatment if you need it.

The Village has upgraded its old and difficult phone system. The Village is now on a VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) system, which greatly expands our communication capabilities. We have also changed the way you as a citizen can access our departments. When you call 505-897-0502, you will be given clear options to make it easier to connect with whomever you are looking for. Of course, you can still speak with our fabulous receptionist, Brigitte Scott, for further assistance.

Corn mazes help us celebrate fall. Go local with Wagner’s Farmland Experience, 6445 Corrales Road through October 31, 9am-6 pm.  (Tickets at: 505-459-0719 or https://www.wagnersfarmlandexperience.com/)

Halloween is happening in Corrales! Trick-r-Trunk will take place on Sunday, October 31 and starts earlier this year. We need candy donations, so please bring those big bags down to the Village Administration Office. Folks who want to participate by decorating a truck, car, tractor or trailer will soon be able to register online. For more details, call Lynn Siverts at 505-899-8900.

Today is the last day of the local VFW Post 5432 food drive. Please take canned goods to the Corrales Community Senior Center from 11:30 am-12:30 pm. Donated items will help feed those in need.

Monday, October 11th is Indigenous Peoples' Day!  This is a holiday that celebrates the history and culture of Native Americans across the nation (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indigenous_Peoples%27_Day). Santa Fe has several events this weekend to mark the occasion (https://www.santafe.org/indigenouspeoplesday/). Don't forget that the Village Offices will be closed on Monday in recognition of the holiday.

There will be a Village Council meeting on Tuesday, October 12 at 6:30. Because of the public health order and COVID numbers, this will be a virtual meeting. The Agenda and Public Packet and zoom link will be available today on the website . Be in the know!

Sunday may bring colder weather and winds as we move further into fall. It’s still easy to get out there and enjoy our trails and recreational facilities. Don’t forget to check out what’s happening with local businesses at https://visitcorrales.com. Visit the Corrales Growers’ Market on Sunday from 9-12. Or maybe watch a little football. Whatever you choose to do, stay safe and have fun, Corrales-style.
