Mayor's Message for September 17th, 2021

Corrales Ditch

The week has continued to bring hot afternoons and no moisture, so keep an eye on those dry weeds and unruly growth. Please relish the beautiful cool mornings and nights.

As New Mexicans, we are proud of our Hispanic roots and September 15 - October 15 gives us a special opportunity to celebrate with National Hispanic Heritage Month. For more information, see: https://www.hispanicheritagemonth.gov.

The Village will be submitting its Capital Outlay Project List to the state for legislative consideration of our infrastructure needs during the 2022 session. Later this fall, the Village will meet with our state legislators. If they choose to fund some of our projects, we will be notified in March or early April and funds become available next fiscal year. Corrales is starting to receive the monies from last year’s allocations. First up are the municipal parking improvements, likely followed by monies to complete the Thompson Fence line Trail. We’ll keep you posted.

Speaking of municipal improvements, the Village is hosting another public meeting with residents to discuss the Meadowlark Phase 2 (Trail) project on September 22, at 5:00 via Zoom. Door hanger notifications will also be hung on the doors of homes off Meadowlark, especially in the cul-de-sacs. Please spread the word. The Village Administrator, Engineer, Director of Public Works, and Councilor Parker will attend to give information and answer questions. Thank you.

The Village wants you to be informed about the public’s business. Information is available on our website, which you can get on a computer or smart phone. Print meeting agendas are posted on the Administration Bulletin Board. If these methods do not work for you, please contact Village Clerk Aaron Gjullin (agjullin [at] corrales-nm.org) for help.

COVID cases are leveling off, but there’s still a high rate of infection and death, so the state mask mandate remains in place until October 15.  Wear a mask in indoor settings, regardless of your vaccination status. Masking helps crush the surge.

The Heart of Corrales Fiesta at the Old Church takes place Saturday starting at 10 am and ending Sunday at 4pm. There will be lovely things to see and buy and of course, a chance to enter the Pie Walk and win a whole pie.  Note from the Clerk: Sorry folks! Some dates got changed last second. No Fiesta this weekend. Watch for new details at https://www.corraleshistory.org/

Visit with Pet Mayoral Candidates in beautiful La Entrada Park this Saturday at 10 am. For more information about the candidates, go to https://www.corralesharvestfestival.com/vote-for-pet-mayor/. Don’t forget to vote!

Still time to get tickets to Bobby Shew’s Jazz Sextet concert this Saturday evening in La Entrada Park, offered through Music in Corrales (https://www.musicincorrales.org/current-season/).

Sunday morning is the fabulous Corrales Ditch Run (https://corralesditchrun.com/), sponsored by Kiwanis Club of Corrales and now partnered with Dave Gives Back. All 3 races weave through our beautiful Village. Even if you don’t run, be there to cheer participants and for fun food and games at the Corrales Parks and Recreation Center, 500 Corrales Road. Kiwanis uses the proceeds to give local eligible families an awesome, free 5-day Kids Kamp experience. Dave Gives Back funds Search and Rescue emergency services.

The Corrales Community Library is having its Fall Book Sale on October 2nd and 3rd. Stop by from 9am to 4pm and pick up some new reads. They are also going to have their $5 bag sale on Sunday October 3rd from 3pm-4pm. Let's support our Library!

Ex Novo Brewing Co. - Corrales won a gold medal for its American Style Strong Pale Ale (Threat Level: Turquoise) and their Portland site won a silver medal for their International Pale Ale (Intergalactic Pale Reality) at the Great American Beer Festival. On-tap now! Congratulations.

Kudos to local athletes from Cibola High School. Both the girls’ soccer and volleyball teams won the APS Metro Tournaments.

Mark your calendars for October. The 33rd Annual Old Church Fine Arts Show will take place in person from October 2-10 (and online from October 11-31).

Lots to see and do around town this weekend. Fiesta at the Old Church, pet mayor candidates in the park, or running for good causes along our byways. For even more, go to https://visitcorrales.com. Don’t forget the Corrales Growers’ Market on Sunday from 9-12. Please have some fun and stay safe, Corrales-Style.
