Mayor's Message for September 18th, 2020

Hay Field

Fall: a favorite time of year. The reason is clear in this wonderful photo by Stacia Spragg. While it is lovely out there, we are still getting fire smoke, so exercise caution.

Village in the Village (ViV) is a non-profit in Corrales that helps seniors thrive in their homes through a network of dedicated volunteers. It’s also one of only five organizations in the state recently awarded a Quality of Life grant through the Governor's Commission on Disability. Kudos! The grant will fund training on using tech devices to communicate with friends and families, make virtual doctor visits, order groceries and get prescriptions online. On Monday, September 28 at 5:00, ViV will host a Zoom session about the organization, the grant, and some technology vocab. RSVP to Director Sarah Pastore at corrales.viv [at] gmail.com.

The Village received $255,000 for CARES small business grants. Take advantage of the opportunity. The Village website has information; the application will be posted on September 21. (Go to website COVID 19 Resources and/or click on the banner). The Village will offer an online Q&A session Monday, September 21, at 1pm. Zoom info will be found on the website under COVID 19 Resources and/or click on the banner.

Youth Poetry Contest is on! Submit those “Life in New Mexico is…” poems until October 11 to melisa [at] corraleslibrary.org.  Prizes! Plus, the winners will read their poems (on video) as part of Rudolfo Anaya’s “I Love to Read Day” on October 30th.  More information can be found on the Library website and in the flyer below. Like cooking? Watch librarian Brynn Cole cook up something literary in Food from Fiction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebT1w1VQt74. Just want to read a book or watch a DVD? Use curbside pick-up Tuesday through Saturday 12-3. See: https://corrales.biblionix.com/catalog/

Our fire crew returned safely to a happy citizen welcome, but it looks like they are being deployed again. Stay safe and we’ll be waiting for your return.

COVID/PHO update. We are crushing it – low transmission rate, low positivity rate and rapid contact tracing. The new PHO now allows youth sports practice for 10 or less, camping in New Mexico, ice skating and hockey practice and Pumpkin Patches (Wagner’s Farmland Experience in October). Keep it up! You know how.

CENSUS.  Deadline September 30! Please, complete the census or help others to do so. The numbers matter: they bring 7.8 billion dollars a year to our state and help businesses to relocate here. http://2020census.gov/. Census workers (with badges) may be in your neighborhood. Or call: 844–330-2020 (English); 844-468-2020 (Spanish); 844–467-2020 (TDD).

Village Council Meeting will be happening telephonically on Tuesday, September 22nd, at 6:30pm. Agenda and Packet can be found at website

Visit the Corrales Growers’ Market on Sunday from 9-12.  The weather will be cool at night and mid-eighties during the day – perfect for outdoor activities. Whatever you do, be safe and enjoy yourself, Corrales-style.
