Mayor’s Message September 20, 2019

View of Mountains

Monday officially marks summer’s close, but the upside is we begin our wondrous fall, with its blue skies, roasting chiles and golden leaves. We are kicking off the season with the Harvest Festival, happening throughout the Village on September 28 and 29. It’s going to be great. Want to volunteer a little of your time? Lots is happening at the Corrales Community Library. It’s the library’s 40th anniversary and many special events are planned. FOCL will be having its fall book sale on October 5 and 6. Come buy books – you know you want them. As Librarian Marian Frear says, it’s not hoarding if it’s books! Marian is very appreciative of FOCL’s efforts – they make a lot of library programming possible, including a children’s crafts club, a bi-lingual story program and a coding club, just to name a few. Thank you FOCL! New AV equipment (courtesy of a Kiwanis grant) has made programming that much easier. The library has great librarians – Marian, Sandra, Melisa and Brynn – and great volunteers’ It all makes our library special.

It may be a little late, but we are finally getting some rain. Please remember to take precautions if your property experiences any drainage or flooding problems.

Also, the Corrales Master Gardeners continue to beautify La Entrada Park and the Administrative center. Many thanks to Mike Halverson of the Santa Ana Native Plants, for his kind plant donations. He is also working with Master Gardeners on a list of plants that will help control erosion in every season. When finished, this could be a great help to our residents.

I got a chance to visit the new Public Works building project over at Jones Road. It’s going well and should be finished very soon. Just like the Fire Department, look for a Public Works Grand Opening event to allow them to show off their new safe and secure digs.

Next Tuesday is Council meeting, starting at 6:30. The public packet will be available later today.

Do not forget to visit the Corrales GROWERS’ Market and the Maker’s Market this Sunday from 9-12. Always good food, music and fun. Whatever you do, enjoy your weekend, Corrales style.
