Mayor's Message for September 9th, 2022

Historic Old San Ysidro Church

The Village Administration hopes to develop an upgrade of the comprehensive plan. I think of the comprehensive plan as being like a list of things I would like to see done in the village that improve our quality of life, conserve the village character and preserve our history. So, as you think of things you would like to see in our community, think of using that type of approach. For me, the fire suppression line is important not only to help everyone in case of a home fire, but also to be able to deal with a Bosque fire when it happens because it has and will again. Completion of a village wide sewer line will provide alternatives for homeowners if their septic system fails. It would also provide for the long-term protection of the groundwater as people join the service. Maintaining our current density of one house to an acre also helps protect the groundwater from leach field contamination, the greatest source of groundwater contamination. Our P&Z Administrator is working on our community profile. We should be able to see how the village population has changed over the last 13 years.

Fire Commander Tanya Lattin is hard at work giving vaccinations, doing what she can to keep us safe. Be sure to schedule an appointment for your shot at https://goodtimes.vaccinenm.org/ or contact Commander Lattin at 505-702-4182. She will be holding a walk-in vaccination clinic Wednesday 9-14 at the Rec Center from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Moderna event code DIPDPKY and Pfizer event code KNURWQH. Commander Lattin will be adding more clinics, including Sunday 9-18  from 9:00 AM until 3:00 or 4:00 PM. This site also will include under 5 and 5-11 year old.  Stay healthy and safe!

The Corrales Harvest Festival still needs lots of volunteers on September 24th and 25th. Please check out their website at:  https://www.corralesharvestfestival.com/ for more information and to sign up to volunteer.

On Sept. 17th, beginning at 9 AM is the Corrales Bike and Wine Tour. Check-in will be at the Cottonwood Montessori School parking lot. Three wineries will be showcasing their wines. Check out their website for information: https://www.un-17.org/corrales_bike_wine_tour.

Don’t forget the Growers’ Market on Sunday at 9 AM. Agriculture is an important and integral part of the village, although not as many are farmed today as in the past.

Remember the library! See the art at the Teen Art Exhibit showcasing the art of Abigail Opel. It opens September 13th at 6 PM in the YA room at the library. Corrales MainStreet is developing an Arts and Cultural district to celebrate that aspect of Corrales.
