Mayor's Message for April 10th, 2020

Horses Social Distancing

Well, not the April we wanted, but, weather wise, right on the money.  Beautiful days, then windy ones. More flowers and leaves everyday. And just as we’re getting used to warmer temps, the threat of a freeze. Ah, spring in New Mexico.

This week I’ve made a video for you (recorded on my phone, so be gentle), talking about our response to COVID19 (https://www.corrales-nm.org/clerk/page/village-corrales-taking-precautio...). I hope what comes across is my confidence in our community and in our ability to make smart, life saving decisions.

The Village is trying to do everything possible to safeguard you. But government is not the answer to the virus. You are. It is the actions of each and every citizen that will determine how well we do as a society in meeting this threat.

Right now, Sandoval County is being greatly impacted by the virus. Our travel is down about 42% but it’s not enough. We must stop getting in our cars unless it is absolutely essential. We must shop alone. We must not congregate anywhere. We’ve got this.

People are helping. Pam Gibbons (Sew Right Inc.) and Linus are making cloth masks. Facility Build has donated masks and Professional Securities has been bringing lunch to our first responders. Intel donated a medical storage cabinet. Folks are donating food and have given generously for animal care. Many more are helping neighbors and friends. Every action counts, Thank you.

Please check out visitcorrales.com and click on “Corrisis” updates for a list of businesses providing services. Pick up some Corrales bling and support our businesses at a new cool site: www.corraleslove.com. Some happy day, we will all wear our special Corrales t-shirts and stand right next to each other at a big bash in La Entrada Park. It’s gonna happen…

Telephonic Council meeting is next Tuesday. Agenda items and materials will be posted by end of today, along with a telephone number for the public to call and listen in. You will be able to find it at https://www.corrales-nm.org/meetings. Make sure to click "View Details" to find the phone numbers you need.

Deemed an essential service, the Corrales Growers’ Market will be held on Sunday from 11-1. The map and rules for this market can be found at: (https://www.corrales-nm.org/community/page/growers-market).

It’s a beautiful time of renewal and many faith traditions are celebrating this weekend. Folks will find a way to share joy with each other, even as we are physically apart. And we are going to do it with style, Corrales-style.

Mayor of Corrales
