"The Library That the People Built"

We have only four paid village staff members. Everyone else you see working in the library is a volunteer. Our volunteers help operate the front desk, shelve books, find materials for patrons, process materials, package seeds for our seed library and so much more.

Many of our volunteers have been here for years (even decades), enjoying their connection to the community, building friendships, and exploring new books, movies, and activities.

Becoming a volunteer:

How to help our library:

  1. Desk Worker: These volunteers greet patrons, check-in and check out materials, and shelve books. Our assigned desk workers have a regular shift (between 1.5 to 4 hours) once a week or twice a month. For those who are unable to commit to a regular position, we have openings for substitute desk workers.
  2. Shelf Reader: These volunteers ensure that the books on our shelves are organized neatly and in their proper place. We ask for a minimum commitment of two hours of shelf reading a month, and this flexible shift can be completed anytime the library is open.
  3. Special Projects: We always have projects at our busy library. These tasks could be labeling shelves, moving collections,  processing forms, helping with our book sales, or doing an ongoing inventory of our collections.
  4. Corrales Community Seed Library  Our seed library opened in February of 2022 and volunteers are needed to package and label seeds throughout the year.

Existing volunteers can also attend training sessions catered toward their area of interest. These include sessions on search features on the public catalog, how to place a hold on an item, and much more.

If you are interested in pursuing any of these volunteer opportunities, please contact Sandra Baldonado at: sandra [at] corraleslibrary.org or (505) 897-0733.
