Mayor's Message for August 1st, 2025

Corrales Mayor and District 1 Councilor Rick Miera walking down Corrales Road

The Mayor and Councilor Rick Miera (District 1) walked the north end of Corrales Road assessing safety issues and discussing solutions. The road is a tier 3 road owned and controlled by the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT). The Village has to work with NMDOT to solve these safety issues.

On July 29, Tuesday, a work study was held with a Corrales residents noise committee, Corrales business owners, and the Village Council to discuss the existing Village ordinance for noise control. A Corrales resident, Marty Haber, formerly a Noise Ordinance enforcement officer with the city of Albuquerque, offered her services as a volunteer consultant. It was a civil meeting with good information and much discussion by the parties and the Council. This issue of noise has been the bane of municipalities everywhere, but I think we heard some good suggestions for a path forward to perhaps managing its negative impact on our community. That meeting can be viewed on our website, link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_N2OJo50SmM

Tickets are on sale for the Harvest Festival Farm Tour.  You will have an opportunity to visit four Corrales farms, meet the farmers and buy fresh produce.  Transportation is included and you'll even receive a large produce bag for the low cost of $10 per ticket.  Only a limited number of tickets will be sold, and you can get yours at the Sunday Growers Market at the Corrales Farmers' Cooperative table in the center booth.  If you have questions, please contact: corralesfarmerscoop [at] gmail.com (corralesfarmerscoop[at]gmail[dot]com).

Village in the Village is planning an online national auction to raise funds for their organization to help seniors in our community. They have a professional auctioneer who will set up and conduct the auction, including sending the items to the new owners but are in need of items to be auctioned. They are looking for items with a retail value of $50 or more that are small enough to be sent to winners by mail. Memorandum From Corrales Police Chief Mangiacapra

During the evening of July 30, 2025, Detective Sergeant John Colvin, Officer Merissa Martin and Officer Joe Segura assisted the Albuquerque Police Department with their efforts at taking a subject, who was wanted on felony charges and barricaded inside of a Corrales home, into custody. Det. Sgt. Colvin, Ofc. Martin and Ofc. Segura worked seamlessly with the Albuquerque Police Department and the suspect ultimately surrendered as a result of the crisis intervention tactics utilized by Det. Sgt. Colvin.

The proficiency displayed by Det. Sgt. Colvin, Ofc. Martin and Ofc. Segura in carrying out their duties with respect to this incident is admirable and resulted in a wanted felon being taken into custody without any use-of-force being necessary. I would like to take this opportunity to commend Det. Sgt. Colvin, Ofc. Martin and Ofc. Segura for their exemplary performance with respect to this matter. These efforts serve as a positive example to other CPD members, help to reaffirm public faith in our Police Officers, and are a testament to these personnel being true guardians of our community.

The Corrales Police Department is still accepting donations through this weekend of school supplies for their annual Cops & Crayons collection drive to benefit Corrales Elementary School. There is a collection box inside Village Hall in front of the police department.

HEALTH & SAFETY

School starts next week. We all can help make sure that everyone heading back to school can safely make it to and from school.

  • Observe Speed Limits: School zones have lower speed limits follow the posted speed limit signs for school zones.
  • Stop for School Buses: It is illegal to pass a stopped school bus that is loading or unloading children. Always stop when the bus's red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended.
  • Watch for Pedestrians: Look for children and adults crossing the street and walking or biking on the side of the road.  Do not pass vehicles that have stopped to allow pedestrians to cross.
  • Avoid Distractions: Stay focused on the road and avoid distractions inside your vehicle such as cell phones.
